Solved Vivladi crashing after latest update
-
Since last update this morning, Vivaldi is self closing every few minutes. I am running it on a Debian 11 system.
-
Ok, should be fixed now. For stable users at least
-
@leonx0a0 Please check Troubleshooting issues.
- Which Vivaldi version
- Do you see any messages after starting Vivaldi Stable in shell with
vivaldi
- Do you get a message in syslog
- What do you do when the crash happens? Any special URL where this happens or many tabs or what?
-
I get no crash after a 5 minutes (or more) with 5.0.2497.30 on my Debian 10, and no issue on Debian 11 KDE Plasma.

Hi @doctorg , answers are posted below:
- Version 5.0.2497.30 (Stable channel) stable (64-bit)
- No message whatsoever, only noticeable change is an empty closed tabs after opening vivaldi again.
- "Dec 15 08:37:27 snail kernel: [ 3155.627356] vivaldi-bin[5822]: segfault at 10 ip 0000556040f44974 sp 00007ffe8b19a9a0 error 4 in vivaldi-bin[55603acfa000+95b0000]
- Nothing out of normal from my usual browsing routine. (122 tabs with 12 GB of RAM)

Would like to report the same: constant crashes after latest update.
⋅ Vivaldi browser 5.0.2497.30 (Stable channel) stable (64-bit)
⋅ Kubuntu 20.04 (64-bit)It has been crashing when I have both normal and private windows open at the same time (for multiple Google Drive logins).
Edit: just crashed with only one normal window open. Lasts about 4min open. 16GB RAM. Intel Core i5.
Let me know what to do to provide better information. Thank you for looking into it!

How to generate a crash log:

I am mac, but I am also getting crashes since today's update, seemingly at random.
I've reported it as VB-85283 and I've attached all the crash logs I've gotten.
-
Seems some Linux, Mac and Windows users have crashes and others not.
I hope the devs can investigate this. -
it is happening when a private window is open along with the mormal session window
-
@leonx0a0 said in Vivladi crashing after latest update:

Without any website in those windows?
-
@doctorg 89 tabs open in standard session window, 1 wikipedia page open on private one
-
@leonx0a0 Any videos or GPU consuming content running? Check internal task manager with Shift+Esc
And check Linux's Taskmanager RAM and virtual memory usage.I just want to know what causes this crashes.
-
Also getting crashes. MX21(Debian 11)
I tested this with the same link in normal and private windows: https://old.reddit.com/r/wallpaperpacks/comments/gr9l5e/the_witcher_3_wild_hunt_tons_of_gorgeous_4k/
I manually downloaded images and cleared the download list in normal window, worked fine. Did the same in a private window and the download list did not clear until I clicked on one of the items in the list. Went back to normal window and opened history and crashed.
Will do same test on MX19 -
@doctorg crashes keep happening after disabling the GPU, only 22% of RAM was allocated prior to the private window's crash
-
same test on MX19(Debian 10) vivaldi 5.0.2497.30 no crashes yet
