Resolved (for now, at least): Javascript "Popups" Broken
-
Several sites utilize a javascript "popup" in order to accomplish certain tasks, such as file download or print. The most globally accessible site for testing/validation of this issue I've personally encountered is Yahoo Mail; simply open a message and try to print it. Both Beta3 and Release1 open a new about:blank tab instead of the deliverable content. This had been resolved in your incrementals through 1.0.435.26. Another site is ADP, which is a widely used corporate timecard/payroll service, where in both Beta3/Release1 I am unable to download files due to the same about:blank behavior.
-
That's just the thing, it's been fixed and working correctly for weeks and as recently as five days ago (1.0.435.26 was released April 1). Release1 has reverted whatever behavior they had resolved.
-
About:blank remains an issue in 1.1.443.3
-
Strange. I have 1.0.435.42 () (32-bit) on Win 7-64 and it works fine for both Yahoo and Zoho mail printing.

TBallmann: We have two different and completely separate issues. The "popups" I'm attempting to open do not attempt to reference / open any extension. The two examples I referenced are not true popup windows but instead are intended to deliver some content, be it a print preview or a file download. All I get using Release1 is a fresh, blank tab with "About:blank" in the address bar.
That said, incremental release 1.1.453.30 has restored correct and proper operation on the two examples I originally referenced. :woohoo: I was not in a position to test any of the other releases between this and 1.1.443.3 and thus cannot provide specifically which update resolved the behavior.
EDIT: Perhaps this from the 1.1.453.6 changelog?
JavaScript "window.open" causes 2 HTTP requests: Lastpass showed a blank page when opening Secure Note (VB-13931) -
@TBallmann:
Can confirm it for 1.0.435.40, windows 7 (amd64), 32bit-version of Vivaldi
Open this site
Look in this site for the link Windows 7 Action Center prompts and GPO Preferences and click on it.
It opens a new tab for the URL chrome-extension://mpognobbkildjkofajifpdfhcoklimli/ with an error message as attached here
There are several other sites (which requires account data) that open links as new popup and that show the same behavior..
See Forum
Regarding your Windows 7 Action Center link - It seems that site ( http://blog.alt92.net/ ) no longer exists??
For me neither Vivaldi nor Firefox can find the site.
Although on clicking the link in Vivaldi, I get a blank page instead of the "Site not found" message that I get when entering the link directly into the Address Bar. -

Thanks TbGbe, but you've missed the mark. To add some clarification:
-
TBallman's issue and my issue are/were two completely separate and unrelated issues, and so his (gender assumed from the avatar) observations should not be considered pertinent here. Further, TBallman opened several of his own threads to address his issue and were able to resolve.
-
My issue appears currently resolved, however I make this statement with reservations. This faulty behavior was exhibited in Beta3, resolved in the subsequent incrementals, and reverted to the "broken" state for Release1. Once again it's working in the incrementals, but only time will tell if it stays resolved through Release1.1.

If it's of help to anyone, if I load Yahoo mail with AdBlock Plus enabled, printing works fine (Release 1.0.435.42). If I disable it, I see the print dialog pop-up, but it hangs and never loads the text. My only other extension is Disconnect and it's enabled.

You are right - except the "mark" I missed was the date on his post
After your update about today's snapshot, for some reason I thought his post was also today :pinch:- My issue appears currently resolved, however I make this statement with reservations. Fingers crossed

I use AdGuard myself, along with browser default settings to disable javascript (whitelist by hostname pattern), purge local data on exit, block 3rd party data etc and was rather diligent (I felt ) to check defaults and eliminate possibilities. I think it's pretty safe to say, given the behavior throughout the incremental releases, and given the VB-13931 changelog reference, this is/was a Vivaldi issue and not the result of extensions nor personal settings.

Hi Vivldi,
have you got any plans to resolve the VB-3823 bug?As far as I can see the popup-bug has been around for more than half a year..
You got a good browser going here, so you shouldn't let irritating bugs like this spoil it.
-
They haven't fixed it.. or they have no plans to fix it?
-
They plan to fix it of course. They simply haven't begun work on it. Other matters have taken priority.

Curious. A few weeks after the original post, printing from Yahoo and Zoho both became problem-free here and I assumed a recent update had fixed it (I use only the snapshots these days- currently 1.5.609.8). There hasn't been a single failure since the end of April and I can't remember changing anything except the snapshots. Are those with the problem possibly using the older (i.e Stable) version?
