V Mail Error | Unexpected Char at Position
-
In my last post:https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/88147/vivaldi-mail-cannot-login-my-qq-mail
I cannot login the QQ mail, this time I successfully logged in to my mail, but still have problems, the SERVERS show between the following two state frequently:
I want to know that which one cause this problem, vivaldi or the QQmail? -
@rtransformation I have seen the Unexpected character at position X error, many, many times.
That is coming from the remote mail server, not Vivaldi and it should eventually clear up.
-
@rtransformation That error message states Vivaldi Mail has a issue with IMAP server of qq_mail.
Which Vivaldi version do you have?
-
@DoctorG latest version, 6.1.3035.100
-
@rtransformation Is a known issue
VB-93424 "IMAP connection error: Unexpected char at position 74" - Confirmed.
I pinged a developer. -
@DoctorG Sorry, I forgot to feedback that the problem has already been solved in the latest version. I don't know how to mark this post as 'Solved', Please help me do that.

This week I have installed Vivaldi 7.0, and have been added two existing e-mail accounts. One of the accounts has problems in syncing with the (IMAP) server: Unexpected char at position 132, related with the sent folder.
With the other account (web.de): no problems in initial syncing.
After having added the account with the above flaw in Thunderbird, all is well.What is apparently needed: an opportunity to precisely log the failing sync job in order to allow the team to find the root cause.
-
Addition: after sync also the number of unread messages is at zero. Only after sending new mails to that account, the counter increments.
Since the status after syncing in a Thunderbird account is okay, I just consider to remove the account in Vivaldi and then set it up again, but then explicitly import the mail database from Thunderbird and then "expose" the client to the internet, while hoping that sync then does not result in new problems.Therefore, any hints would be welcome before I proceed this way.

@rtransformation said in vivaldi mail cannot login my qq mail:

Are you sure that the problem (VB-93424 "IMAP connection error: Unexpected char at position 74") has been solved?

@pafflick I have the same problem, settings are correct.
-
@rjm VB-93424 is closed, unable to reproduce.
I have seen this same 'Unexpected Character' error in the past, mostly coming from the Outlook IMAP server.
My experience, is that this clears up on its own (sometimes in as little as 10-15 minutes later) and have not seen this error occur for at least the past few months.

Anywhere I found a hint that one can use Telnet to obtain the name of the mail server system. In this case apparently Postfix:
rob@rob-notebook:~$ telnet mail.ekir.de 587 Trying 195.227.51.41... Connected to mail.ekir.de. Escape character is '^]'. 220 eki-kopano-gateway03.localdomain ESMTP Postfix ^] telnet> status Connected to mail.ekir.de. Operating in obsolete linemode Local character echo Escape character is '^]'. ^] telnet> q Connection closed.

Currently with the same problem here, using Vivaldi 7.1. I use Vivaldi Mail for 3 different accounts and have the problem with just one of them, on two different devices.
In the other hand, I've set up the account using other email clients with no issue. And also created a support request with the mail provider, which ended up as not their problem, but Vivaldi's.I'm willing to collect and send any information required to help solve the issue. I think Vivaldi Mail is awesome.
Finally, any workaround will be appreciated!

I found VB-61069 on the 'unexpected character' issue. It is confirmed and has been assigned to a developer.
