Upgrading from snapshot to beta

  • Ok, the thing is, I used the snapshot installer to manually upgrade from beta 3 to the latest snapshot... But I heard that snapshots will only update to the next snapshot version, and beta versions will only update to the next beta version... So I'm wondering, when the next beta comes out, will I be able to (manually) update my snapshot to the beta version?? I think so, but I just want to make sure.... Thanks in advance.... :)

  • You can do it manually.
However, the last beta version was actually the same software as the latest/previous snapshot.
There was a small change to allow beta update from beta, but that was it.

A suggestion for our regular snapshot users, if you’ve downloaded our recent snapshot, a new installation is not required as this includes the same fixes that you received in the last snapshot.

As i heared from Vivaldi developers after the Final there will be separate streams for Snapshot, Beta and Final.
So you don't break your installation or update if you want to test other versions.

Take care: Installing a Snapshot over a Beta or Beta over Final may work. But as Beta and Snapshot are for testers, they may have bugs. You should take care about using such versions. ;)

  • What??
So how will I update to the final version??
Will I be able to do it automatically, or do I have to do it manually??
I hope it will be automatic…..

But separate update/install streams is usual for software.
May be it will update automatically or you have to install the Final by hand.

If you want to test Snapshots, Beta and Final parallel you should, (thats what most testers do ;) ) :

    • Final: "Install for All users"
    • Snapshot: "Install as Standalone" to a separate folder …-Snapshot
    • Beta: "Install as Standalone" to a separate folder ...-Beta

Perhaps you can install the upcoming Final over the Snapshot, but i dont know. Me, as a tester, i prefer my described install.
But you can do what you like.

Don't worry, I get the feeling that you will notice the Final is available even if you don't get the autoupdate

  • Well, the final came out today, and I couldn't update automatically, so I downloaded and upgraded manually…. ;)
From now on, I guess, it will update automatically.... :)

  • :P

  • ^
    What's that supposed to mean??

  • Told you you wouldn't miss the final release even without Autoupdate.

It will update to stable versions henceforth.

If you wish to also follow the snapshot updates, you should make a standalone snapshot install.
