Feature Request: Tarball standalone/script installer

  • Currently the only Linux downloads I see from Vivaldi are distribution-specific (DEB/RPM) and need to be installed and updated by the system administrator through the specific package managers. And of course it requires a distribution who offers them. Old Opera has offered tarball downloads which could either be installed using a script or simply extracted anywhere in $HOME and run standalone. Could we have that option for Vivaldi, too?

You can extract any deb/rpm just like a standard gzip file.

The fastest way is installing dpkg or rpm (the former is smaller) then use the good old mc to look inside the rpm or dep and copy everything in the right place pushing two buttons. But you can use the more traditional command line way.

This way you don't have an uninstaller, but given everything is in /opt/vivaldi-something except the vivaldi launch script (which is in /usr/bin) isn't exactly a rocket since to uninstall it by hand.
