Sorting Mail Folders
-
I would love to be able to sort folders alphabetically. My folder structure is terrible using the vivaldi mail client. It's sorted right now, i'm assuming, in the order in which they were created on the server (by some ID probably)..
Sorting the folders should be an option on the top level of that folder for the folders underneath them. In this way some folders could be sorted and others could be left alone.

Welcome to the forum, @jcullins!
While I wouldn't support the other suggestion you made for email folders, this one is something that makes total sense to me. Thumbs up. I assume it will be possible to rearrange certain items sooner or later.

I have the same problem, the structure is terrible, if you have many folders. Please make folders sortable.

This is not simply a nice-to-have, it's pretty fundamental.
I've been struggling back to a multi-account e-mail client after fussing with webmail to handle multiple accounts on various servers.
In a line, I can't use Vivaldi built in e-mail until this is included.
I've just spent a couple of hours tweaking things to find a true hodge podge of folders when I went to save a group of messages.
It's a very frustrating thing to find in Mail and in the browser bookmarks editor when saving a bookmark.
Thank you for reading. Please elevate this basic function in these two areas.

Oh my word. I've (for the first time) struggled through some instructions to fine/use the Mail function from the Panel / Mail (Panel.)
Okay, it makes that which seemed invisible now possible to find. However even here the folders seem to lack a sort feature.
This is quite unbelievable. It's also quite unusable.
I'm necessarily making a move from Fossa Mail (a Thunderbird fork) and highly suspect that if this sort function has not yet been implemented it won't happen in time for sanity to be sustained here. Looks like I'm shuffling back to Thunderbird.
Thanks for letting me say my piece.

@jerskine I suspect that you will remain frustrated with Vivaldi's built-in email client until you let go of using folders. Since Opera M2, the email client has used filters to organise mails.
Use labels to group emails, and select the label to view all emails with that label.
The only "folders" that I use regularly are Received and Sent. To view other groups, I select the appropriate label.

@pesala well sorting things within one category of the panel, and also of the categories, should be made possible. It really doesn't matter whether those things are folders or labels. In my case, I spent quite a lot of time importing all my messages from M2, only to find that my oldest and most irrelevant mail accounts ended up at the top and I can't seem to do anything about it.
@jerskine that being said, folders in M3 will likely never allow setting up a hierarchical structure. Folders are.a terribly inefficient way of staying organized with one's email anyway, but then again, you should feel comfortable. If that means Vivaldi mail is not for you, then it's a good thing that there are different mail clients available out there to choose from.

@WildEnte suggests us to drop Vivaldi as mail client, instead of insisting developers to implement feature that will be convenient. I don't agree.
I'm also still using Opera 12 M2 email client and I was very happy when Vivaldi announced that they will continue the development, until I tried it. I know it is still betta and it is not ready yet, but this is the time to say what we like or dislike.
Please make folders sortable, I can not think of e-mail client that have this kind of imap folder order. -
@nvalkov I think folders should be sortable. I said that hierarchical / nested folders are less likely to be implemented. Opera 12 M2 also never had hierarchical folders either.
I do think Vivaldi mail should make different kinds of workflows possible. I do not think productivity destroying workflows like hierarchical folder structures should be supported. I also wouldn't support car brands that put the passenger seats behind the rear bumper on the trailer coupling. The view might be nicer, but it's still a very bad idea.

Please fix folder order. I don't understand why they are ordered by creation date instead of alphabetic.

Sort order in version 5.4 is now alphabetically, thank you team Vivaldi!
