Ubuntu 18.04: Save as filename suggestion
-
"save as" does not suggest a file name in the dialog.
AFAIR it began with Vivaldi 4.2.Steps to reproduce
Select "save as" for a file you like to download.
The save as dialog opens but the file name field is empty.Expected behavior
When saving files using "save as" to save it to another location, the file name used with "save" should be the suggestion in the "Name" field, as it has been in prior versions of Vivaldi.Additional information
Vivaldi 4.2.2406.48, Linux with KDE (base: Ubuntu 18.04).
NO_CHROME_KDE_FILE_DIALOG makes no difference (0 or 1 or empty).EDIT
Checked with Vivaldi 4.1. It uses a different save as interface, also independent of setting NO_CHROME_KDE_FILE_DIALOG. With that version it works as expected.
Something wrong wit 4.2? -

Linux with KDE (base: Ubuntu 18.04).
Which KDE version?

Sure.
Select "Download Vivaldi" on https://vivaldi.com/en/download/
"Save" dialog appears with options "save" "save as" "open" ...
After selecting "save as" kdialog asks for file name and location.
In 4.2 the file name field is empty, in 4.1 it suggests the file name like stored on server with chance to edit it.Which KDE version?
KDE-Plasma-Version: 5.12.9
KDE-Frameworks_Version: 5.44.0
Qt-Version: 5.9.5 -
@jochen01 I can not tell for older KDE, but this shows the name and filetype:
KDE-Plasma: 5.14.5 / Qt-Version: 5.11.3 / KDE-Frameworks-Version: 5.54.0

@jochen01
I try to check with Ubuntu 18 in a VM now.
Sorry to say, but works for me with KDE Plasma of Ubuntu 18 (KDE-Plasma-Version: 5.12.9 / KDE-Frameworks_Version: 5.44.0 / Qt-Version: 5.9.5).Try
apt purge vivaldi
and reinstall. Something in your Ubuntu seems to be broken. -

Tried it on another PC with an independent Ubuntu 18.04 installation: Same problem.
Other software using the KDE file dialog works as expected.Is there a way to use another save dialog? As I recall there has been the option to use Vivaldi's own "save as". Is it true? Is it still possible?

I installed Ubuntu 18, added KDE Plasma & sddm ans all was ok.
How did you installed your KDE on Ubuntu 18? -

sddm is 0.17.0 here, btw.
How did you installed your KDE on Ubuntu 18?
"Some" time ago...
It's been a normal kubuntu installation with all updates since 18.4.0. On both machines. -

In my case it was a fresh.But i will try again a kubuntu-18.04.5-desktop-amd64.iso on an other VM (after lunch, i think).
Can not download ISO from Kubuntu.org, slow as hell 150 Kilobyte per sec. No Thanks -
Worksfinehere too.
[npro@vu ~]$ echo `vivaldi-stable --version && plasmashell --version && kf5-config --version` Vivaldi 4.2.2406.48 stable plasmashell 5.22.5 Qt: 5.15.2 KDE Frameworks: 5.86.0 kf5-config: 1.0
Please edit your title reflecting your OS.

The reason may be that you are using a more recent KDE. Here:
plasmashell 5.12.9 Qt: 5.9.5 KDE Frameworks: 5.44.0 kf5-config: 1.0

Kubuntu 18.04.6?
From /etc/os-release:
NAME="Ubuntu" VERSION="18.04.6 LTS (Bionic Beaver)" ID=ubuntu ID_LIKE=debian PRETTY_NAME="Ubuntu 18.04.6 LTS" VERSION_ID="18.04"
Is there a way to replace the save as dialog with one from Vivaldi?
Something like "NO_CHROME_KDE_FILE_DIALOG" as env var? -
@jochen01 NO_CHROME_KDE_FILE_DIALOG=1 works.
NO_CHROME_KDE_FILE_DIALOG=1 vivaldi
-
@doctorg said in Ubuntu 18.04: Save as filename suggestion:
@jochen01 NO_CHROME_KDE_FILE_DIALOG=1 works.
NO_CHROME_KDE_FILE_DIALOG=1 vivaldi
Tried it with vivaldi-snapshot, no difference. The file save dialog is the same.
NO_CHROME_KDE_FILE_DIALOG=1
NO_CHROME_KDE_FILE_DIALOG=0
-
@jochen01 Only
NO_CHROME_KDE_FILE_DIALOG=1 vivaldi
disables the use of KDialog.
If you want to use KDialog, do not add any NO_CHROME_KDE_FILE_DIALOG env variable!NO_CHROME_KDE_FILE_DIALOG=1 forces on my Debian/Ubuntu the use of GTK file dialog window.

The file dialog looks exactly the same regardless if
NO_CHROME_KDE_FILE_DIALOG=1
is set or not. I don't know why. I really like to test the GTK dialog. -
@jochen01 I do not know what is broken with your Ubuntu 18 installation.
Perhaps you need some packages named like gtk2-enignes-.....

Hmm, Vivaldi 4.1 works. Vivaldi 4.2 doesn't. I don't see, what may be wrong with my Ubuntu 18.04 installation. Any other piece of software, even GTK based, works o.k. here.

Are installed (needed for other software).
I think I stay with Vivaldi 4.1 and firefox, until there is a real fix.
Thank you for trying to help.
