Filtering Vivaldi Mail is very sick IMO

OK.... where do I enter "add new address" address? Top or bottom space? Where address is does not filter. If I add below 1st address, filter doesn't work. Very confusing. Something is definitely not working right. May have gotten broken recently; I dunno.
Vivaldi 4.2.2406.44 (Stable channel) (64-bit)

@janrif The first entry seems strange. I'm assuming you want an OR so you should have something like:
If that is the case then you need to add a new include group with the new email address in a distinct from condition as the example from the image above.
If the email is from any of those address it will be filtered.

@Durtro Thanks for responding. I understand filtering but I don't understand how it's supposed to work here. A blank = <or> ??? Can you tell me exactly what steps you took to achieve your example? Did you test it? Below didn't work either so I must be doing something wrong. Thank you.
-
@janrif The two first entries are strange. Only the third one seems correct. However it depends on how it was created. If you saved the filter from a search the first empty entry could be the initial search set (where you started the search).
In my case I created the filter directly from the Mail settings by adding 3 include goups each one with a from condition.

@janrif @Durtro
This is about to change quite a bit next snapshot. That will only be a stepping stone, but it puts all the fields in a single text field. It already works in the search field. For example
body:something from:[email protected]
Part of the email should also work
body:something from:vivaldi
Or even
from:^something
That's any from email address starting with somethingThere will be a field to help filling this in, but I can wait until the next snapshot to explain a bit.
I'm hoping to add more there soon after that.

From Search results, if you click "Save" Vivaldi automatically creates filter; no need to go to Settings > Email > Filters to create anything.
In my case I created the filter directly from the Mail settings by adding 3 include groups each one with a from condition.
In your case, creating directly from Mail Settings is copy/paste on various email addresses & paste in the next Include Group? This is can you find "A" "B" OR "C"? Do I have that right?
If we are on the same page, then I think user needs search criteria to create a complex email filter only when searching for something other than email address, example: Body: certain words, etc @gmg Is this how you pictured this?
-
@janrif Yes. My example filters any email where from is any of those three emails, thus an OR condition. It is a very simple filter.
Inside an include group the relation is AND meaning that two from conditions don't make any sense:

@Durtro I've got it now, but what you think if Vivaldi could input "and" or "or" & "end" depending on the construct so user doesn't have to speculate so much? @gmg follows this subject area & is very responsive & encouraging.
-
@janrif don't really know what you mean with "speculate so much" . Do you mean making the relations more obvious via the UI? If so yes sure.
Also from here:
https://vivaldi.com/changes-of-vivaldi-mail-calendar-feed-since-its-first-technical-preview/you have some more options for search.

@Durtro That's exactly what I meant.

@Durtro @gmg However, if I have the following email filter setup
include
@axios.com
subject: AMaxios
exclude
subject: PMaxiosVivaldi filter result is @axios.com AMaxios & PMaxios (not what I wanted)

@janrif tried in the new snapshot. Don't know if it is what you want.
The generated search was:
from:[email protected] AND subject:"MAN-" NOT subject:"MAN-9"The last NOT removed the offending email from the email address. So it works for me.
@gmg tested the new filter UI. In a way I liked the old interface better (easier to read in some ways) but it is also good to have the raw search string. I'm assuming the NOT corresponds to the previous UI excluding group. The new options for searched field and type of search are nice.
A question though. What's the difference between equals and includes. The only difference I noticed was that equals autocompletes emails when adding the condition.

@janrif Don't really know what to say. In my case and for this simple test I have the following results for the following searches:
from:[email protected] AND subject:"MAN-" NOT subject:"MAN-9
6 resultsfrom:[email protected]
8 resultsfrom:[email protected] AND subject:"MAN-"
8 resultsfrom:[email protected] AND subject:"MAN-2"
2 resultsSo the only thing I can say is that it works for me.

@janrif said in Filtering Vivaldi Mail is very sick IMO:
Searching AND subject:AM produces no items
Searching NOT subject:PM produces no items@janrif you need at least 3 letters/characters for a search to function.
Since AM and PM are just 2 they won't work by themselves. You can add a space and quotations for it to work. Something like subject:"AM "

Yes, it was just so that you could easily add a word like vivaldi without it autocompleting.
So you could get
from:vivaldi
which would find every email from an address that includes vivaldi instead of typingvivaldi
into equals and it autocompletes to[email protected]

Ahhhhh, thank you! Didn't know about the 3 letters/characters. Very helpful. I think I tried w quotation marks but I'll try again. Back to the drawing boards for me.

@gmg I like the new filter GUI in email settings area; less confusing, less techie, more user friendly. Thank you.
