Group mails by field
-
Hi,
a feature I was already missing in M2 was grouping of mails by different fields like date, sender, receiver, etc. see
The mails are grouped by "Today", "Yesterday","Last Week" etc.
This makes it much more comfortable to focus on current mails, as I can collapse not needed groups.
It is one of the features of Outlook that has kept me there for the last 10 years as I haven't seen this feature in any other desktop mail program (but I honestly didn't look for a new one for quite a time).
This feature could also be extended in some really cool ways if you combine this with filters, tags and badges, as for the people who like hierarchies you could create some kind of "dynamic" hierarchy structure a little bit like the JIRA Addon "Structure" Here you can have a lot of different setups for hierarchys that are generated out of the Information on each element (like Status, component, parent, ...)

M2 had that
sender / receiver: no grouping available, but followed contacts, or hitting E on an email would show all messages to/from that contact. Plus M2 has labels and all these other nice things.
M2 is great. M3 is slowly getting there.
Hierarchical setups give me the creeps, but generating them from actual mail properties like you describe is interesting and might be a way to please the folder lovers without making compromises on the database approach.

Plus, M2 has two-layer sorting (at least with pinned messages), such that pinned messages always appear on top, which I personally quite like.
