Suggestions to make Vivaldi better
-
[ol]
-
Customize application for viewing source (and perhaps other protocol as well)
Vital feature to web developers. Currently, the source viewer in Vivaldi is limited to just viewing. -
Allow the download panel to be displayed in a tab or separate window so that it doesn't reduce the browser's viewable area.
-
Minimize memory usage. This will appeal to a wider range of users, especially those with a slow system.
-
Sound notification for finished download, loading failure, etc.
[/ol]
Good luck to team Vivaldi and may the phoenix rise from the ashes.
I completely agree on the download panel. It actually already has one but it's not themed or liked to anything though. If you type vivaldi://downloads on the address bar you'll see what I mean, I think this is just inherited from Chromium. They just need to polish it and link it to the download panel.
Sound would be cool too, that reminded me the old good days of using DownThemAll
Now my two cents to the discussion:
[ul]
- Built-in adblocker (the current one is very outdated) based on sources updated frequently, like easylist
- Some nice fade or similar animation when closing a full screen video. Things like this produces a more nice user experience, right now seems like there's no work at all on it, as an example take a look at how firefox handles the full screen interaction

Some more stuff:
-
Open image in new tab –-> Do not open tab in background
-
Paste and Go should open in new tab
-
Make a separate entry for Bookmarks in menu bar
-
Give "one click" bookmark saving option via bookmark button (address-bar)
-
Active tab should be marked more clearly ("Light Interface Color" theme)
-
Keep page size and loaded images count visible in address-bar
Thumbs up for page size/stats on address bar.
Synchronizing notes/bookmarks to access from another device/platform(heard there's going to be an android version too) and more fluid transitions.
Snap in the debug mode in browser window.
Mute the page. -
-
I don't know if these were already suggested but I'll put them anyway:
I work with many tabs and clicking on another (already loaded) tab makes me wait to load that page again (not a new page). That's a no-no. That page should be in cache saved already.
The mouse gestures should be customized.
Many sites use automatic refresh, make an option to disable this.
That's it for now. -
Do away with Conflict-causing Keyboard Shortcuts!
Ctrl+B is often used to transform an email Text into BOLD! & the very same shortcut is assigned to access the Bookmarks Menu as well!
Yes, I do know this option can be Customized from the Settings Menu, but the Default behavior of the Browser should do away with such Conflict-causing Keyboard Shortcuts!
Similarly, in order to "Transliterate" the Text, we often make use of Ctrl+M Key to write in our Native–Hindi Language! & this Ctrl+M is being observed to invoke an another Window as well!
Let there be a POLL amongst the Community Members to decide on the Most Frivolous Shortcuts, which can be done away with!
Thank you.

Hello Folks!
I have been consistently using this Vivaldi Web Browser over a period of last 2 days, & would like to submit that the Experience is far from being referred to as Snappier, the one characterized while using Google's Chrome & Opera!
It appears as though an inherent FRICTION is making the Browser load the Webpages quite slow in comparison to its well-known counterparts!
Elements indexing at the Address-Bar is adding to the Agony of WAIT! & therefore must be done away with!
When BARBERS these days refrain from affixing Wall-Clocks, the motive intends to thwart the desperation & anxious moments of the waiting Customers!
Similarly, elements INDEXING one-by-one at the Address-Bar is somehow proving Counter-productive towards ensuing an Optimized & Feel-Good end User experience!
Browser–OPERA in its early days used to bring that kind of an angst amongst the waiting Netizens..but not anymore!
Therefore, VIVALDI must also do away with elements Indexing portrayal to bring a Feel-Contended experience to the end Users!
Thanks.

It seems terribly slow to load up, and a bit "sticky" generally - disappointed that there is no right click command to change setting for the page/site that I'm on at any time. for example how do I turn off animated images (which I hate!) or change behaviour of pop ups?
-
Hello redmike!
I would like to second your Observations towards the dismal navigational Instincts of Vivaldi! Yes, the Browser require a lot of Improvements to make it act snappier, similar to the likes of Opera & Chrome! As far as Animated Images are concerned, Please refer to the bottom right of the Status Bar where the Page Zoom depicts 100% as a default value!
You would see a 2 tiny icons listed alongside. The One with a Dark-background besides is the Key to TURN OFF Images in an altogether manner & thus improve upon the Page-Load times!
Alternatively, you can bank upon an Incredible Browser Extension–----GHOSTERY!....& it will take care to wean off all Distractions, Ads, Trackers etc. in an altogether manner! Trust me, It does fulfill the Criterion of being called as a One-Stop Solution, over & above anything similar!

Give us an option to mirror the active tab-name to the main window title. The title is atm blank.
I generally work with multiple tabs and many to the same same websites and forums.
Right now, if I have multiple tabs open I have to scroll to the top of the page to see what the title of the page is if its longer that the tab-preview (which they often are).
I had to turn off tab-thumbnails just to be able to read the titles with mouse-over but if the main window would mirror the active tab-name like in Opera 12 I could see the title at a glance. -
Thanks for a great browser, it has a lot of potential, and I've switched from latest Opera to Vivaldi.. For now..
Here are some of my more immediate requests:
[ol]
-
Configurable Link Click hotkeys (Ctrl, Shift, Ctrl+Shift) - Using non-standard hotkeys for this seems really odd to me. I know you're trying to appeal to Opera v12 holdouts, but this alienates those that came to terms with industry hotkey standards for clicking links.
-
Setting a static column size for speed-dial
-
Able to shrink thumbnail sizes for speed-dial (possibly in relation to column count?)
-
Page loading indicator! The only indication I seem to notice is the Reload button changes to a Stop button.
-
Change URL immediately upon auto-complete. When using the autocomplete and selecting one, the url stays as whatever you had typed, does not auto-complete to the full url until the site responds/loads, and or fails to load.
-
Page reload blocked indicator - Vivaldi seems to block reload on pages that had a form submit, but no redirect. That behavior should maybe be configurable, but in either case, some sort of indicator as to why it's not reloading would be nice. I keep thinking there's a problem with the site(s) I'm on.
-
Option to load tabs in the background upon start-up, rather than default forced to not loading until viewed.
-
Sticky Tab option - Similar to pinned, cannot close, but regular sized tab to be able to still see the title. Example: I want to keep Gmail open, and visually be able to see if I have new messages at a glance.
-
Right Click Context Menu integration for Notes feature. Seems a useless feature without that.
-
Find Dialogue tweaks - Not sure I like it centered, and make it more obvious when no results found! Other browsers change the background color of that bar or textbox, etc to a different color that makes it super obvious, again, without having to look and see "oh, 0 / 0"
[/ol]Oh, and kudos for implementing Push Notifications! Good job!

Switching off images is grand but not if the site in question mixes images you want to see and animated images you want to stop flashing, jiggling and generally annoying the hell out of the viewer!
I hope someone from Vivaldi is reading this cos its close to a deal breaker for me, ditto the ability to switch off java-script for certain sites.
It's weird that for a supposed high-end browser there are no right click commands for page/site preferences.
I'll have a look at GHOSTERY see what it's got.
-
here is a extension Context menu to close - tabs to the left, tabs to the right, other tabs, tabs from same domain, current tab, window and more click here
-
For slowness, you can also try this I used for a while in chrome when I had less ram and see if the usage of resources decrease.
-
Bookmark sorting options. My order etc.
-
Give us an option to mirror the active tab-name to the main window title. The title is atm blank.
I second this. Actually, I think it's a bug, because when minimizing/maximizing, you can see the normal title flash for a split second before it's covered up by the blank title bar. This is even with "Use Native Window" checked, in Windows 7, Vivaldi 1.1.443.3 (64 bit)

I was very interested for switch to vivaldi as my default browser and a modern release for replacement of Opera12… BUT I'm not now for one reason only!
Add proxy setting independent as same as Opera12 because it's very important & likely for me At least!
Thank you!

Already available. Sort Manually is what you're looking for.

I had problem in editing previous tips post
- Auto-update usually stop at ~3/4 for the first time. The second works. In latest devs works better: latest snapshot updated immediately.
Auto-disable all NPAPI plugins (as they won't work) andadvise to update PPAPI flash if it is missing/old (at first run) with direct link Opening a new tab after update, with newer flash PPAPI download link so anyone will update it.- Ability to set size of bookmark bar favicons horizontal spacing (3 distances should be sufficent), useful for small monitor.
- Ability to open link from sidebar in new tab, window, or popup.
- Autohide/show on mouse over for every element: sidebar, tab bar, bookmark bar and nav bar (expecially useful for small screens).
- Add bookmarks from urlbar, still show default and removed folders in the list. unverified
- Bookmark page: Ability to resize columns in new tab view.
- Built-in user-agent changer for use both desktop and mobile versions of the sites
- Contextual menu for bookmark bar folders/subfolders; make the elements movable
- Can't make a bookmark label "blank" renaming via bookmark bar when labels are enabled. Still works via bookmark sidebar.
- chrome://settings/certificates doesn't work to me To others works, so probably will be fixed restoring profile/upgrading vivaldi when it'll come
- "Click to play" in chrome:\content doesn't work for html5 videos but I think it's chromium behaviour
- Click wheel mouse on bookmark folder in bookmark bar should open the relative tabs in new tab(s) but currently works only on single bookmark. It used to work, so it's a regression; I know that's stated as "fixed regression" but doesn't work here
- (For future) Native "stylish" both for UI and web pages (so will start to come a lot of userscripts)
- (For future) Drag 'n drop also for not system apps (alternative explorers/imaging softwares at least)
- Enable optional full aero dwm support via option even if you don't use native option (at least on window title)
- (Suggestion) Enhanced cookie manager: I mean a simple icon in addressbar with whitelist/blacklist option for the opened address, according to settings used in chrome://content (similiar to vanilla cookie manager extension)
- (For future) Export other things other than bookmarks with a kind of tool which take care of needed file (as MozBackup)
- [LINUX] Folders can't be created/renamed, seems to use only default ones. unverified, I suppose was fixed
- Having a public tracking list to follow better the status of tips/bugs posted
- (an idea) Having three release channels: final (stable), beta (most stable RC/beta/dev will be pushed in beta channel) and snapshot (most updated, as now happens)
- Horizontal scrollbar isn't present if the page doesn't fit in unmaximized window happen on this forum, but still again I think it's chromium behaviour
- (for future) Main bars (title bar, url bar, address bar) can use something similiar to ff personas or google themes.
- Improve history page following the scheme already done with bookmarks one.
- Improve support for extensions, especially the ones that involve URLs and workarounds for the ones which use google apis .
- Import bookmarks from a vivaldi beta profile installed in custom folder didn't work; works importing from exported html file. unverified, potentially fixed
- Import bookmarks from html files add 5 empty "new folders" in imported folders. unverified, probably fixed
- Integrate in settings some values of respective chrome pages like fonts, password ("show password" button is missing in the UI), cookies, autofill and content (eg. for notifications settings). Change some icons for them.
- Integrate in settings the whole chrome://about for having control of the browser switches (eg: settings > advanced)
- Integrate "translate web page" popup detection as in chrome or an entry in contextual menu for translating.
- Integrate a "load new page" pre-loader (useful to scroll sites)
- Join-tabs-by-host and boomarks in panel should be follow a tree style also but without that nasty spacing. (providing both methods)
-Move active tab outside window to open it in a new window WITHOUT reloading them if possible. - Multirow bookmark bar and without using customization hacks (or implement the corrispondent settings in the browser)
- Native proxy settings
- New folder in speed dial, also create a new folder in bookmark bar but probably is its behaviour
- Option to show only the lock icon with no site name in "site information" (url bar)
- Option to create a bookmark favicon by image or by url link.
- Option to auto-mute audio tabs on load (eventually per site setting)
- Option to auto correct some words (particular useful for languages which uses accented capital letters or different types of accent in keyboard e.g.: "perchè" should be auto corrected with "perché" (because). Similiar to what word does.
- Option to choose "bookmark bar" and to disable "tab thumbnail preview" (and on mouse over) at welcome page (first run)
- Option to disable/enable and change position and size of the buttons before the address bar.
- Option to disable favicons in tab bar and show only text now possible only via .css
- Option to disable home button
- Option to have "reload" button in url bar; a sort of "reload-stop-go" as firefox had (it was nice)
- Option to scroll "x" lines at once in settings (wheel mouse). some devs ago mouse was "slow" in scrolling, however now it acts better.
- (Suggestion) Option to show only bookmark label in bookmark for the active one (hide the other labels to save space)
- "Paste and go" isn't translated yet (Italian language)
- Re-ordering of extension buttons like in chrome.
- Resizable url bar for hiding extension buttons - available via chevron as chrome or as an (optional) hamburger icon as firefox, but it's better to fix moving the buttons in panel: lot of space there.
- "Reload all tabs" option (it's note nice use an extension for that)
- Single column view (scrollable) for bookmark bar and an option to lock sub menus within Vivaldi browser window)
- Spacing between folders/subfolders in bookmark sidebar tend to take too much space, plain tree and/or less spacing would be better)
- The search engine to use should be asked at the first run
- Vivaldi hangs if explorer hangs during drag-n-drop. After explorer reboot, Vivaldi works normally. happened once, so I think will work better now
- When you heavy use it (I mean A LOT of tabs), dead canary can happen
and extensions and all pages stop to work(should kill only the tab which caused the issue/resource hog; happen on tumblr with pages which support infinite scrolling system). Now only active tab crash. - Will be cool to have a multi-thread download page in future.
