Speed dial thumbs: an _easy_ way to set custom logos and disable automatic thumb creation
Please. I honestly don't understand why every browser doesn't have this, while nearly every extension does. Loading a local image is so much easier to implement than loading a page in a background, taking a snapshot of it, and display it. And the usability is honestly questionable. What am I supposed to see from, say, this thumbnail: For one, the snapshot is cutting off the left and right side of the page, because the page is displayed @16:9 and the thumb is 4:3 Yes, you can tell which site it is, but other than that, it's just two main pages of a forum, full of forum sections - something that is static and doesn't offer any information beyond that. A logo, set by the user (since providing a logo for every site out there is impossible), is just as static, but more visually appealing, and in some cases, much easier for the user to identify. I know there is a tutorial on how to change the images manually, and I tried that way, however, as you can see from the attached image, vivaldi just decided to overwrite the logos with its webpage snapshots. edit: it gets worse. Bookmarking the arch linux forums makes the thumbnail to be a blank, white rectangle - a case of parsing going wrong, or something, but that's just another case of the current system being utterly useless, to be honest.
