Vivaldi wants to open xdg-open application instead of localhost
-
When I enter something like
localhost:3000
in the address field and press enter, Vivaldi asks to open the xdg-open application. If I enter the address with protocol (http://localhost:3000
), the localhost will open normally.
In the Windows version there is no such issue. -
@rammsteinam That is a known and confirmed bug - no progress for a fix.
Found this internally:
- VB-80168 "Attempting to access localhost with a port leads to a popup trying to open xdg-open"
- VB-55459 "[Linux] Enter search keyword that contains colon in the address bar will open a xdg-open dialog"
-
OK, thanks for the info. It's a pretty annoying bug though.

@rammsteinam I often ping a dev for such issue.

Is there no update yet? It's absolutely irritating; aside from localhost, I think there is also a related bug where if I open vivaldi://calendar with xdg-open it then asks me again if I want to open it with xdg-open once the calendar page has opened...

@Nekros Your issues relate to same bug.
No progress.
