Unexpected Spotify Client-Vivaldi interaction
-
Okay, so this might be a little convoluted explanation, but:
I'm currently running Linux (Arch, with GNOME as DE) since March with Vivaldi as my main browser since before that, mostly keeping up to date with rolling updates. Except when updates break it, Vivaldi is fine, and when it breaks I just rollback and wait for a new release.
I also use the Spotify client almost daily. There is no official Linux build, so I use the AUR build. I thought the Spotify client was Electron based, but in checking that I'm sort of confused as to the technology behind it. Nevertheless, tools such as spicetify-cli (which I use) can inject CSS into it.
So I recently searched for a way to remove Vivaldi's top bar, so that the only constant visible interface element other than pages themselves is the tab bar to the left. I succeeded in that regard by using a custom CSS with Vivaldi's experimental features.
The real funny issue is, since that little successful hack, Spotify client also stopped having a top bar, and also started exhibiting some weird behavior (like ignoring GNOME window positioning commands, as in to scale to half the screen and the like). This is very strange, since to my knowledge there should be no interaction between that client and a separatedly installed browser like Vivaldi.
Of course, I am not proving the interaction by stating this here, but this is my actual request - how can I gather info, logs or else that may help me figure out what is going on in this case? I have some programming knowledge, but overall pretty limited and I'm also not a Linux master, so I really need the assist :c

@tsrodr Hello and Welcome to the Vivaldi Community
First - since this seems like a problem with Spotify, maybe better to speak to the Spotify people?
There would be no point gathering logs from Vivaldi if it's Spotify behaving erratically.
Also, correlation is not causation. Just because something else seemed to happen at the same time does not mean it was caused by the first thing.
This is troubleshooting 101: Just disable the CSS mod in Vivaldi. Easiest way is just move the custom css file and restart the browser. If problem in Spotify is solved, it was likely caused by the mod. If not, something else causes it.
If the Spotify UI can be inspected like in Vivaldi, it also might be a way to figure out what goes on. You'll need to do some searching to find if that's possible.
Best of luck, sounds like an interesting case to solve
