Vivaldi 4.1 RC 1 – Vivaldi Desktop Browser snapshot 2369.10/11
-
@ruarí: It isn't necessary, maybe is some hidden change on my systems which will be reverted sometime.
I can live with that, but I was intrigued of this suddenly broken feature.Edit: Tried the stable (.11) update over snapshot(.10). Still broken „Capture Area to File/Clipboard”. I'm cursed or I've broken something on both PC's…
-
@gif2d: never really checked it, as I always go for keys when possible but, yes, same here too: doesn't work via the menu too. Windows 10 Pro 21H1, OS build 19043.1110.
-
@kocho: If i revert to 4.1.2358.15, „Capture Area” is working fine, if I update to any other version (via update or via installing) „Capture Area” is broken.
Strange, as „Capture Page” is working… -
@gif2d And have you tested in a clean profile? If you can't reproduce it there, you need to try to change settings until you find the one that causes this issue.
As a renaissance man I'm sure you see the value of the using the scientific method.

The problems with an unfunctional browser window and writing lines like
[8578:8578:0727/112628.934650:ERROR:network_service_instance_impl.cc(331)] Network service crashed, restarting service.
remained at for me with this snapshot 2369.10 (whereas stable release 4.0 [2312.41] is still fine). -> RPI 400, latest Manjaro Linux ARM testing branch
But as in the other thread (https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/63957/chrome-based-browers-not-working-with-systemd-249/16?_=1627379312367) noted, @xircon 's hint of changing
/etc/nsswitch.conf
Fromhosts: files mymachines myhostname resolve [!UNAVAIL=return] dns
to
hosts: files mymachines myhostname dns resolve [!UNAVAIL=return]
(as indicated, found at:
https://forum.endeavouros.com/t/brave-browser-strange-behaviour/15903)did indeed the trick for me.
Happy now
Maybe it's worth adding this to the release notes as a known problem, in order that other people with the same problem can enjoy the new version of Vivaldi, too. - as long there's no final cure otherwise.
-
@pathduck: Well, as a Guest, everything works. At least now I know it's related to my profile settings somewhere.
I had a bad profile, all those four seasons are against me this time… -
@gif2d Just download the snapshot and install as a Standalone, and see if you're able to reproduce by tweaking the settings like you have in your standard profile. Often there's a single setting or a combination that could cause a problem. Or of course it could be an extension, if so install them one by one until it happens again.
A video showing the issue might help understand it too. Just saying "broken" over and over again does not really help
-
I hope the AV1 codec issue No audio on 9GAG.com" will be fixed.
-
@doctorg I just change av1 to vp9 or completely remove av1 in/from 9gag filename.
-
@gif2d Yes, that is a workaround if you watch teh MP4 file or change the HTML5 video source by a UserJS, but not a solution for regular users.
-
@pathduck: It's not showing at all the cross-selection cursor as it should after I select Menu -> Tools -> Capture -> Area to File or Area to Clipboard.
Neither via menu, nor via keyboard shortcut. Now, I'll try to identify what went wrong in my profile to deter the functionality of „Capture Area”…
I'll begin with: https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/install-update/full-reset-of-vivaldi/Thanks for your suggestions, they were pertinent and very helpful!

[VB-81703] Remove from Tab Stack does not work when used on an individual unselected tab
Now I get why you've been unable to reproduce this.
In a clean profile, I'm only able to get this if I do the following:Enable: Tabs > Tab Features > Tab Stacking > Accordion
Stack 2 tabs.
Open Start Page tab outside the accordion.
Expand the stack. Make sure the Start Page tab is active.
Right click on a tab > Remove from Tab StackIn my profile, I'm unable to Remove from Tab Stack whatsoever, not just with accordions.
So lesson learned: When reporting, never assume stuff works the same in a clean profile .I'll reply back to the original email.
-
As for this
[VB-81579] Incorrect inactive tab background with Accordion Tab Stacking on and Transparent Tab Bar on
Enable: Tabs > Tab Features > Tab Stacking > Accordion
Enable: Themes > Color > Transparent Tab Bar
Disable: Themes > Edit Theme > Apply Accent Color to Window
Stack some tabs. Expand the stack. It should happen now, but on a default profile you'll see it better with:
Enable: Themes > Background > Blurred Circle Dark[VB-81580] Incorrect round corners for active tab
Enable: Tabs > Tab Bar Position > Bottom or Top
Set: Themes > Edit Theme > Corner Rounding to 10px or more
Disable: Themes > Edit Theme > Apply Accent Color to WindowIt should happen now, but on a default profile you'll see it better with:
Enable: Themes > Background > Blurred Circle Dark
Enable: Themes > Color > Transparent Tab BarI feel like I could write the reproduction steps with much more care to make sure they can be applied easily on an entirely new profile and the issues are immediately visible. I'll, again, reply back to the original emails. I hope those steps will make the issues much more reproducible.
-
@infosrefanvlad Had you replied to your bug with these new steps?
You should do it, otherwise the bug report will get the state Cannot reproduce and more investigation stopped. -
I don't know if this is a new feature, but unfortunately I still don't close the bookmark folders in the sidebar as I should with the left arrow, but I can open and close it with the right. This mode is very confusing.
-
@csablak Maybe something wrong with your profile or keyboard. Here, Left Cursor collapses folders, and Right Cursor expands them.
-
@doctorg Yes. I tried to take extra time to remove any sloppiness, then replied with the new steps.
-
@csablak Yes, this is a bug. It happens if Bookmarks/Notes etc is sorted by Title.
I've reported it as:
(VB-81261) LeftArrow fails to close folders in Bookmarks, Notes panels/tabs -
Check for updates from 4.1.2367.3 nothing happens after you open the browser, quit and open Vivaldi snapshot and try again and the check for update works.
-
Can't wait for the 4.1 GA!
