Tab Reordering and new windows
-
I have an issue with reordering tabs. I don't think it is the first time being reported, but I have finally found the exact workaround to get it working. So when I start Vivaldi and try to reorder my tabs I always get new windows. Then I have to drag the tab from the new window back to where I want them in the initial window. It is really frustrating.
I have written about it in another thread and I thought I found some type of workaround. But it was very inconsistent and I finally found out why.
Profiles don't fix anything. What does fix stuff is window positioning. The multiple profiles I had opened just aligned perfectly. Who would think that another window position would have an effect on that.
If there is another Vivaldi window open behind the tab bar of the top window, stretching the whole length, tab reordering works on the top window. It is still a very strange thing, but perhaps a developer with knowledge about how Vivaldi works can take something from this? I would really appreciate it, if this could get fixed.
Im on Big Sur Version 11.4 on a MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019). I really hope this can get fixed. It is such a pain to use Vivaldi when you can't properly reorder your tabs.

Another extension to this finding: Make sure that the tab bars are not over each other. So make sure the tab bar of the top window is below the tab bar of the bottom window.
I hope this finds a developer or a way into the bug tracker of Vivaldi. Really have to consider to switch browsers while this bug is around.

Still an issue in the new version 4.1.2369.11.
Quick questions: Is anyone actually reading this? Is this even tracked by the developers? Are there better options to report this bug?

I am not seeing any problem with changing the order of my tabs. I do not have more than one tab bar, nor do I use more than one Vivaldi window, however.

@streptococcus Are you also on Big Sur Version 11.4?
Since I'm fairly new to Mac, most things are on their defaults. The only thing perhaps a bit special is an activated full disk encryption. So since I'm grasping at straw, do you by chance have full encryption disabled?
I don't know what this would have to do with tab placements. But who would have thought window placements does have any effects.

@dravere The help on How to Report a Bug explains the procedure.
- Report it in the forum, which you have done, to see if anyone else can replicate it.
- Follow the trouble-shooting tips. The majority of so-called bugs are either misunderstandings of how features work, lack of familiarity with settings, or conflicts with extensions or third-party apps (anti-virus and registry cleaners are the worst culprits).
- The developers don't usually track the forum, but they do occasionally comment.
- If you have a clear recipe then do submit a bug report.

@pesala Thank you for the link. I'll issue a bug report. If it allows me I'll even look into making a video, to prove that I'm not just too stupid to reorder tabs
For me it happens on a clean Vivaldi install and I have no extensions, anti-virus or registry cleaners in place. Does Mac even have a registry?
Thus for me the recipe to recreate the bug is to install Vivaldi. Which is a bit weird, since you would assume if it is that simple it would be a widespread issue on up-to-date Macs. I have to assume there is some hidden other thing going on that creates this issue which sadly will make it really hard for the developers to reproduce and thus fix.
Is it possible to update the bug report in-case new information is available later on?

When you submit a bug report you will get an automated reply with the bug number. Quote that bug number in any forums posts about that bug.
Reply to that email to add additional information to your report.

So I recorded a video of this behavior: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nzvyC3d2tgzUwo9_Qts0FMeHTJ__uDPY/view
In addition I found out that this has something to do with having external monitors attached. Another fix is to switch the menu bar (Under "System Preferences..." -> "Displays" -> "Arrangement") to an external monitor and the bug disappears. The bug also doesn't happen on the laptop monitor. I've tried with different cables, docking stations etc. but it always happens on the external monitors if the menu bar is on the laptop display.
Also I've opened up a bug report for this now: VB-81879

@dravere It is not much help just reporting it here. You need to zip the movie and attach it as a reply to your bug report email.

@pesala No worries, all information is already attached to the bug report. Just wanted to also post all information here, just in case someone else has this bug as well and searches the forum for information about it

@dravere
I now have Big Sur 11.5.1. I do not use disk encryption. -
