New messages counter showing non existing messages
I have had this issue for months now. Not sure when it started, but I finally decided it was time to get rid of it.
My recceived messages counter, always shows 3 more new messages than it was supposed to show. For instance, right now I only have one message that hasn't been marked as read yet, but that it's not new anymore:
If I go to the received messages folder, I see only that one message as well. As soon as that message gets marked as read, the 3 new messages counter disappears as well. If I get 4 new messages in the meantime, I'll see 4/4 in the Unread folder and 7/4 in the Received folder.
I've tried toggling the different types of messages and even went as far as scrolling through the All Messages folder, with all types active, to try and find these 3 ghost new messages - no such luck.
My feeling is that it's a result of earlier days, when the mail database still had a lot more issues, and some bug in the indexation has survived until this day. One of my email accounts displays a similar behavior of showing 1 ghost new message, so I'm assuming the other two would be feeds (but can't say for sure - again, I can't find such messages).
It's more an annoyance than a real problem, but I always wondered if some search bugs might be impacted by this, so I've finally decided to tackle it. I have, therefore, two questions, in case someone can help me with it:
Is there a way, through Console or whatever, to find out which messages are those three new messages?
In case there isn't (and I'm already assuming it'll be the case) is there a way to reindex the mail database without having to download all the emails again and mark all my mails and feeds again as seen and read? (Because it took me a few hours the last time I did that...)

@pauloaguia Also have this problem in a recurrent manner. If I right click on the affected folders and then select "Rerun Filter for Folder" the counters get fixed until the next time it happens.
My guess is that the problem is in the state of filters getting updated or not. Maybe it is the same in your case.
@durtro Thanks. I never even noticed that there was a context menu there
At first glance nothing happened. The 3 ghost new messages remained there. However, I just restarted the browser and now the new message counters are finally the same in the unread and in the received folders.
If I right click on the affected folders and then select "Rerun Filter for Folder" the counters get fixed until the next time it happens.
That should be part of the documentation. I had the same problem and did a complete reinstall of the mail provider (one of the two I use).

I had the same problem. I could reproduce that (new) messages were not included in the count (or shown by clicking on the number) but could be shown, when I did a search for some content of these mails. So the good news is/was that the data was on my laptop, only I could not access it the way I liked to.

@pauloaguia Marking as read should only take a few seconds. Focus a message inside a folder, press
ctrl-ato select all the messages and then mark as read.

@wolfgang I think that is a different problem. The ghost messages apparently were a counting problem - messages that are not there are counted. Yours is the other way around: a message that should be there is not. Is your issue resolved by rerunning the filter as was described here? Does the message appear in all of the account imap folders where it is supposed to show up?
Instead of reinstalling Vivaldi completely, one can also try to rebuild the database as was described here
