Netflix streaming not working

  • With the latest version of Vivaldi, Netflix streaming is no longer working. Streaming on other sites seem to work well though.

  • Noted this as well after the last update. A day or two ago it would tell that an error occurred with login and ask you to sign in and out (this would not fix the issue), now it redirects you to the help page for installing flash and silverlight. Works fine for other sites that use flash and silverlight so probably a Netflix issue.

  • I've ran into the same issue today. I thought it was because I was messing around with Flash plugins, but it seems that that may not be the case, if it's happening to other people.

  • Same here! Waiting and hoping for a solution. :(

–> just a point of pedantic correction on my part, sorry. This problem actually began the night before the current SS [1.0.418.3] arrived in my Linux Mint repository, ie, when my SS was still 1.0.403.20. I remember that night clearly, coz i'd just snuggled down to watch the next episode in the series on which i'm bingeing in NF atm … in Vivaldi, which had streamed NF just fine the previous night ... when i was shocked to get the NF redirect page you've mentioned. Like others, i had to close V & sadly launch Chrome, to continue my NF streaming.

I've only posted this pedantic detail because logically it implies that something changed on the Netflix side, NOT the Vivaldi side, to cause the problem. If this fault arrived only with the new V SS, then it might be credible to suspect V caused it... but that's impossible with the timeline i have listed here.

That said, regardless of the root cause sitting with NF or V, i do hope i can soon return to V for my NF binge-watching, rather than have to keep launching the yukky Chrome. Please Devs?

  • This link will help you to get it to work … I just found a solution and tested it ... it works GREAT.

  • Many thanks AgentCueball, that fixed it!! The method i had been using, til a few nights ago, was as per this: https://vivaldi.net/forum/vivaldi-browser-for-linux/8148-vivaldi-web-panels-audio-netflix#46200

Re the Tutorial, pls note these remarks FYI:
    1. I already had that Extension installed [for a very long time], but i did not understand how to configure it, til now, so this was a v big help.
    2. You don't actually need to go to that agentstring site. The applicable info is readily available within V: vivaldi://about/
    3. In my Linux Deb V version, in Components, there is no listing of WidevineCDM [& i don't know how to get it there]. However it is listed in vivaldi://plugins . I decided therefore just to skip this step & see what happens … & it worked!

  • I am glad that you got your NetFlix & Flash issue solved and thanks for sharing :)

  • I think this is a Netflix issue, not Vivaldi's.

I have both a PC and a Windows tablet. I only updated to the new version on Vivaldi on the PC. My tablet is currently running the previous version. However, I am having the same problem viewing Netflix on both devices and this only started a couple of days ago.

I think I'll have to have a chat with Netflix. I'll post here is I get anywhere with them.

And, after discussing this with a Netflix chat agent, this is the result:

I already passed along the information of your browser. As of now we are not fully supported there so there is not any step we can try to get it working. However we know the browsers are important to our customers so I sent your comments as feedback, we recently added Opera to the list so hopefully Vivaldi can be there soon! In the meanwhile I would suggest to chose one of our supported browsers where is guaranteed we will work with no issues at all, you can Click Here to see them all :)"

Sigh! Back to Chrome for Netflix…

Sorry but i find some of your post mystifying.
[1] Yes of course it is a NF not V fault – this was already proven by simple logical deduction from assessing the behavioural evidence against the timeline, as i showed in my post above... https://vivaldi.net/forum/vivaldi-browser/8847-netflix-streaming-not-working/reply/49653?quote=1#49441

[2] "Back to Chrome for Netflix" –> huh? That is a logical conclusion ONLY if you've decided independent of the NF issue that you wish to use Chrome instead of V for your browsing needs. Conversely however, if the sole reason to leave V for C is NF, then with respect your decision is illogical – kinda like cutting off your nose to spite your face -- the previous comments in this thread showed you unequivocally & unambiguously that using the named spoofing extension solved the problem. All the info you needed is there for you in black & purple.

^^^ you should follow step by step … it works great ... I am not saying it's your fault ... maybe you just did not follow the instruction properly and carefully ...

any questions about that "step by step" ? ... We will try to answer your question

I followed the instruction first try ... and netflix playing flawless
