Data Encryption Fail

@evelon The "Sync Encryption" warning mean you use the same encryption password as your Vivaldi account. It is highly recommended to use a different password for encryption, but it's not mandatory (it's a warning)
You can choose "Reset remote data" to erase data on the server and enter a new encryption password.

@pathduck I know, but i can't do it right now because that would mean lose all the 163 saved password that i'm trying to get. My only goal is to either get the list of the 163 passwords in a file or to export it in another browser. Is there a way to do it? Even though i have to do it manually looking into a specific path/folder, that's fine too

@evelon Oh I guess I misunderstood your first post and got focused on the warning in the image you posted.
I don't think this is related to the Sync encryption password, but the OS encryption. The passwords are encrypted in the local
Login Data
file in the Vivaldi profile, how this is done depends on the OS. I suspect by changing this Vivaldi is unable to decrypt the passwords for sending to Sync.I'm out of my depths here, I don't use Linux and it's done differently there with keychains and stuff. Might need some Linux experts.
A theory:
I suspect passwords are still inLogin Data
but encrypted with the "KDE/Plasma" method. How to retrieve these I have no idea.I also suspect passwords are still on the Sync server, and what fails is the Merge between these and the local file.
So: Try to trick Vivaldi there are no local passwords.
- Log out of Sync in Vivaldi
- Close Vivaldi and make sure all processes are stopped
- Move the
Login Data*
files out of the V profile - Start Vivaldi
- Log in to Sync
- Hopefully Sync will copy the passwords from the server and encrypt them properly with your new OS method.

@pathduck I see, i'll try that, but this
Login Data
is the name of a folder or a file? And even though you are no expert of Linux, can you give me the default path to this file on Windows? Maybe i can figure it out on Linux too, and thanks for the help -
@evelon
Login Data
is a file. You can find the Profile Path in Help > About.The file is SQLite format.
https://sqlitebrowser.org/dl/
The values will be encrypted, but you can see if passwords are still stored there. -
@evelon As you had used kdewallet in the past, which Linux keyring infrastructure do you use in XFCE?
Changing keyring app breaks de-/encryption of Vivaldi logins and passwords.

This post is deleted! -
@doctorg I'm not using any keyring in XFCE, or at least it doesn't come up with one by default (as KDE wallet instead did). That might be the problem. What do you suggest me to do to fix the problem?
Edit: i purged the whole sync data of Vivaldi account and starting over, but still on the Sync Internals page, it shows me the same error as earlier, even though now the passwords are already gone. In fact even if i try to save/store a new password, vivaldi doesn't save it for real -
@evelon As your Vivaldi login data was encrypted by kwallet you need kwallet to get it back.
-
@evelon
Hi, you need a working keyring, create one or activate the KDE key.
It should be possible to run Kwallet on Xfce, if you only change the WM.
If I cancel the keyring password question, Vivaldi start but my password list is empty.Cheers, mib
