(History of) Vivaldi Feature Requests

Also Vivaldi can't add google translator field as custom search.
Although Opera 12 can!
I suppose it's because Chromium sucks… -
Hi,
First, sweet project ! Especially like the flat UI, with color linked to favicon and reverse progress bar. Now or the feature requests.
- Default behavior for JS/CSS/etc. blocking : For now we can block them per site with the icon at the left of the URL. But except for cookies, there is no way to set default behavior (for instance, block JS by default)
- History tab in sidebar
- (I presume this is already planned ?) Previous/Next button menu to be able to go back/forward in history more than one step at once
- UI customization (for instance, being able to add other switches such as image in the bottom bar)

Hi guys, this browser seems really promising and I definitely love the new clean and minimalist interface.
As you're in the design phase, I would like to suggest things that have been really forgotten by others (excepting maybe Microsoft) and that would give a significant "plus" : the possibility to fully configure the browser for using it in a company/business/public environment.
Let explain by describing my own company needs. We want to:
- Lock down the browser:
[ul]
- no menu access
- no address bar
- no search engine
- no download manager access/no file saving
- no right click options
- no user customizations excepting maybe the ones that are used for browse comfort : zoom, encoding, etc
- …
[/ul]
- Users can only navigate starting from the default page pre-configured in settings or passed in startup parameters (which becomes therefore the new "home" URL for the current session).
- And when you close the browser, user modifications are lost/reset to default values, that let the place clean for the next user.
- Use it without installation (just run the exe, even from a removable device) : it seems to be the case as far as I can see…
- Allow the possibility to start several instances (processes) when running the executable (meaning not reusing the current started one) and allow (with appropriate flag) the possibility to "isolate" each started instance (meaning that you will have different temp folder for storing cookies, cache, etc) as if you were opening a new window in privacy mode.
To summarize, the final goal is to have a browser dedicated for navigation on specific web sites without allowing any modifications made by the end-user on the hosting platform (security breaches!). This is not exactly a kiosk mode because kiosk means more a full screen use, here we really want to customize and lock-down!
There is really an opportunity to seduce big companies having the same constraints as we have, I hope you will consider my suggestions!

Oh, I also forgot, a purely cosmetic one :
- soft scrolling when using the mouse wheel (see for instance "yet another smooth scrolling" for Firefox, which does it in a very nice way)
-
Please, restore the "old" functions from opera like the shorcuts "ctrl+b" for "paste and go" or "ctrl+click" for downloading images instantly.
Everything I have read above is great. Hope you read it too.
Also, I know that this has to be for a third party developer but an AD BLOCKER must be available soon.
I'm so excited about this that I have made this account just for say this.
It was sad to see Opera simplified.
Make a real advance browser!!!PS: English is not my native lenguage so sorry for the possible mistakes

May be it was mentioned but night mode would be a nice feature. Also I'd like to have ability to save current color theme. For example, right click on the tab -> save theme and it's not changing clicking other tabs

Basically, give me opera 12.14 (or maybe even opera 11) but modernised. I love that tab stacking has returned and that the + and - signs can still be used to control zoom as well as using the numbers for this. Did they forget to add the * to be used to bring the page back to its default size?
As for things specifically that I want:
-opera's password management instead of chrome's. I do not like how the fields auto populate when you visit a page that requires your login. I would prefer that the fields remain blank until you hit Ctrl+Enter. Or maybe hit the wand button, but that's not really necessary, although nice to have.
-same amount of freedom for customising the speed dial as opera 12. I would like to adjust the size and how many dials I may have in each row or column. I do like that I may use bookmark folders as my speed dial. Very clever feature, makes me glad that I duplicated my original speed dial in opera as a bookmark folder.
-customisation: if the ability to create your own buttons and such does not return, please add a "minimise all" button to minimise all tabs.
-opera turbo: i'd LOVE to see this in vivaldi. as mentioned before, it's not something i use often, but i am extremely glad it's there for when i must use it.
-better portability: when i choose stand alone installation in opera 12 (or any older version for that matter) I can take the resulting opera folder anywhere and it will work. This does not happen with vivaldi. If I move the Vivaldi folder and try to run it, I get an error message saying that it's searching for something and lists the path that it was originally installed in. Basically, please make portability work like in opera 12.
-please bring back opera 12's network and proxy settings, not what is currently found in vivaldi and chrome.
This is all that I can think of for now.

Thank you for this awesome project!
As a huge fan of old opera browser I wish the best for you.
I think you should bring back the OS independent proxy settings. Lots of people are using two browsers with different proxy settings. For work and home for example, and somethimes a 'hidden' browser with different settings to bypass company policies. This time only FF have this feature in major browsers.
Thanks for the tabs_on_the_right function. Most people with high resolution has lots of horizontal free space bc of shit pages. -
I miss mixed content functionality. In Chrome and Firefox I can temporary allow this behaviour. I'm looking forward for it in Vivaldi too!
Article about mixed content in FirefoxAlso I would like to have a shortcut to Developer Tools.

Middle mouse button to open page in background tab please
This already works for me?!
Oops, saw someone else mention it so thought it was missing, maybe it has been added. Removed the request.

It'll be great if these features are integrated:
- the web inspector should be dockable like the one in Google Chrome and Firefox.
- the user should be able to organize the Notes using a drag-and-drop UI, the same way the Bookmarks are done right now.
- the user should be able to e-mail the saved Note … this can speed up the testing process for web developers, because many web developers don't rely on a Bug Tracking software for small projects and it's sometimes hard for the client to use such software to explain the problem they are encountering.
- there should be a Private Browsing window to avoid clearing the cache, the session etc. when testing a website.
- integrating a color picker at the bottom right of the screen would be awesome.
-
Like many have said - just implement all the features of Opera 12. Really. Just do it. Please.
Something I really miss is the arrange option in the tab bar - the ability to cascade and arrange open web pages was awesome. Please implement this.
Great work so far.

Used Opera for a long time, became disenchanted with the "new" Opera and have gradually migrated to Firefox.
Downloaded Vivaldi this morning. Using it on Fedora Linux and I really like what I see.
Not sure if I'll continue using it, or wait a while. The main thing that might stop me using it is that it doesn't recognise my installation of Flash in Fedora (my main operating system) although it does on Windows so I guess it's just a matter of waiting?
If it's not going to be incorporated later, I'll really miss the "Paste and Go" option when right clicking in the address bar.
Impressed with the way it imported my bookmarks direct from Firefox on Linux.
Interface seems a little sluggish at times, maybe you have debugging code in place, but it seems to load web pages very snappily.

Vivaldi is on the good way, but there are many missing features for having the Opera 12 level.
The most important one is : please, do something for having its design integrated to the desktop environment. Right now, it's the only flat software I have, with a completly different design, it's just ugly. In addition, because the title barre (with the three buttons at the top left of the window) is made by Vivaldi browser, it lacks of the usual features (like the menu with a right click on the logo, or additional buttons with GNU/Linux).
And now, the others features :
- showing the classical menu barre on the top of the window instead of the "V" button
- Synchronization with a custom server, or Opera servers
- Stacking tabs
- Opening all bookmarks in a folder from the speed-dial to a stack of tabs
- Bookmarked all tabs in a stack into a speed-dial folder
- Update a speed-dial folder bookmarks from a tabs' stack
- Pinable tabs
- Showing the "history" like the speed dial
- the possibility to use the Opera 12 design
- a mouse gesture help like Opera 12
- custom search engines (and also in the lateral panel)
- the possibility to have more bars for bookmarks or extension buttons (when there will be extensions)
- RSS feed, with the possibility to synchronize them, with the old articles, and there status (read/unread)
- Updating the speed-dial background from some image boards or from a RSS feed
About the synchronization server, I would like to have the possibility to use my own server, or the ones of Opera or Vivaldi.
I also would like browser for smartphones, especially for Symbian Anna and Nokia N900, but I think this will stay a dream. -
The only thing I really do miss is a good RSS/feed-reader as the one in Opera 12, opera stopped being useful to me when they removed mail/rss reader.
So a BIG feature req. from me is is a good RSS/feed-reader in Vivaldi.
… and some less important features (but fun to have): a incognito mode/tab feature, popup/ad-blocker, ability to disable script/plugin loading.
But Vivaldi looks good so far
-
The main thing that might stop me using it is that it doesn't recognise my installation of Flash in Fedora (my main operating system) although it does on Windows so I guess it's just a matter of waiting?
Interesting, I am using Fedora 21 (GNOME) and Vivaldi is working just fine with Flash. It uses pepperflash by default, I think.

Here some request:
-Bittorrent
-Dragonfly (like Opera 12 (not like 13+))
-VP9 for videos
-WebRTC
-Private Browsing
-Fast Setting (like: en/disable Java Script)
-Complete Settings menu like in Opera 12 (Advanced should be complete) -
- Configurable mouse gestures (really need a gesture for the new tab)
- Option to change all UI colours manually
- Proper text and LINK (!!!) selection like it was in Opera not like in Chrome/FireFox nowadays. I hate it when I want to copy just one word out of a link but can only copy the whole thing. And I've never needed link dragging in my life. Please.
- Option to hide sidebar altogether and move some of its elements (e.g. notes) to the main toolbar
