Vivaldi close/crash after sync
-
I haven't tried Vivaldi for some time but thought I would give v4 a go and all looked good until I entered my sync details and vivaldi just closed after sync and now when I try to start it a window opens briefly then closes again.
Any ideas?
I tried a reinstall but that didn't help until I installed to a different folder and it is running OK as long as I don't sync but I have things like login data from an old install but vivaldi doesn't recognise any of that.. -
@fw190 Vivaldi really should stop these crashes.
Did you try to sync in your reinstall, or just assumed it wouldn’t work? Do you have another computer to test?
To be clear, does the brief window ever get past the Vivaldi logo splash screen?

I did try to sync again on the new install and same thing so did another clean install and just tried setting things up without sync and I think it is something to do with the email system, I added 2 accounts and everything seemed OK and shut vivaldi down but came back to it today and it is shutting down straight away and I see it loading mails just before it does it, other than altering some settings emails were the only thing I added, no extensions.
Is there any way to disable the email system, I tried deleting all folders and files that appeared to be related but it still starts fetching emails on startup. -
Well, it seems the v4 snapshot 4.1.2339.3 has well and truly borked sync...
After updating the snapshot, it wouldn't sync - so I reset the sync data from that snapshot - now every other snapshot or stable install (Windows or Android) crashes 10 seconds after trying to sync.
@Fw190 - the v4 you mention in the original post; is that stable or a snapshot?

i got crashes with active sync on 4.1 snapshot ubuntu 20 LTS.
a dev investigated with my help a issue with some bookmark names. seems to be a chromium 92 issueidnk if your issues is the same.

I tried the stable and the 4.1.2339.3.x64 snapshot, same with both.

Tried a fresh install of Vivaldi.4.0.2312.33.x64.exe to a different folder and tried to clear data as in linked post and vivaldi shut down almost straight away and it was back to opening for a few seconds then shutting down.
Deleted 'default' user data folder and tried again and it asked for an encryption password this time and it seems OK now but I would like to find a way to get my passwords back as the file import option from a previous install does not do it. -
