Problems migrating from Opera Mail Standalone
-
I have had a few problems arise after downloading the Vivaldi mail client. I have been using Opera Mail - Standalone for years as I waited for Vivaldi to release their client. But, though Vivaldi communicated with the server and set up the accounts well, I was only able to import files from the Opera directory Vivaldi provided (Opera 12.x -- C:\Users\My Files\AppData\Roaming\Opera\Opera) which appears to be the integrated mail in the Opera browser. Opera Mail Standalone is not Opera, right?. It is Opera Mail, and as such has a different directory. I'm not sure how to import any of the files Opera Mail Standalone client points to:
Paths
Preferences
C:\Users\My Files\AppData\Roaming\Opera Mail\Opera Mail\operaprefs.ini
Saved session
C:\Users\My Files\AppData\Roaming\Opera Mail\Opera Mail\sessions\autopera.win
Opera directory
C:\Users\My Files\AppData\Roaming\Opera Mail\Opera Mail
Mail directory
C:\Users\My Files\AppData\Local\Opera Mail\Opera Mail\mailSo, right now, I seem to have downloaded pretty much every email I ever received and didn't delete going back to 2009 and that's great, but I have no "Sent" emails (5000+ in Opera Mail) and I am missing "Labels" and a complete set of "Contacts". I hope someone can shed some light on this. I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

Earlier I imported from Opera Mail after having problems with it not doing anything.
I eventually got it to work by pointing it to C:\OperaMail\ but then clicking on "profile", so that was in the folder field at the bottom. I'm almost certain that was it, then it started importing. If that doesn't work it was pointing it to the profile one, then clicking mail, but I think that's what I tried first and that didn't work.
I'm surprised it's this difficult to get it to see the files. -
There are still some issues importing from M2, several threads are about that are scattered around the forum. I understand you were going via Vivaldi button - file - import from applications and files and got limited success.
Some potential avenues:
- wait for an update where import works flawlessly
- Download Opera 12.18 and install that (instead of Opera mail standalone), copy the mail folder over into the user folder of 12.18, then import from 12.18 (cumbersome but may work well enough?)
- (likely your best path to success) There is a very useful thread about Opera Mail standalone import https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/58193/importing-from-m2 that contains some specific instructions, probably not easy to put it all together though.
Note that even then your problems are potentially not entirely solved, as some things seem to abort M2 import (like having an IRC account in your accounts setup).
This thread explains (towards the end) how to circumvent the problem by importing one account after another.

I hope any of this helps?

Thanks for the replies and advice. I should have mentioned how thrilled I am that this thing is finally (almost) here, and praise to all the people who have worked on it over the years. Yay Vivaldi!
But I think I may just wait for an update wherein "the import works flawlessly". I'm afraid that I am often proof of the adage "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing."
