When I click a hyperlink whilst Vivaldi is closed, Vivaldi will open but not load the link. I have to click it again (with Vivaldi open) to get it to load the link. The same happens when opening PDFs.

When I updated Vivaldi two or three patches ago, the problem seemed to be fixed. But came back with a later patch (or over time, I'm not too sure).

      Vivaldi 3.8.2259.42 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
      Revision	f4b13ed6242bf56c4ddb1dc50244f52c9903e4eb
OS Windows 10 OS Version 2009 (Build 19042.867)
      JavaScript	V8 9.0.257.29
      User Agent	Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/90.0.4430.214 Safari/537.36
      Command Line	"C:\Users\Fluxanoia\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\Application\vivaldi.exe" --flag-switches-begin --flag-switches-end --origin-trial-disabled-features=SecurePaymentConfirmation --save-page-as-mhtml https://www.fluxanoia.co.uk/

@fluxanoia Hello and Welcome to the Vivaldi Community ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ‘

I can't seem to reproduce this here on Win10. Vivaldi opens with a URL, whether opened from a link in Notepad++, Thunderbird or directly from the cmd prompt.

What is your settings in Win10 for default browser? And for the http/s protocols?

Are you able to test from a cmd prompt?

Also check the value in the Registry under:
        Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\VivaldiHTM\shell\open\command

Try also to rename your Default profile directory to Default.bak and try in a clean profile.

        > BTW, today I cannot connect to mozdev.org, would you know why?
Maybe that big lizard escaped and ate the server admins? :-)

Are there any settings in particular you want to know? Or is there a way to export my settings to a pastebin?

I'm familiar with CMD, but not sure what to execute - the information in my post seems to have the command which was executed to launch Vivaldi?

          The value under Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\VivaldiHTM\shell\open\command is:

          "C:\Users\Fluxanoia\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\Application\vivaldi.exe" --single-argument %1

Resetting my Default directory did seem to work, but obviously it resets everything, and there's probably something causing this that I'll end up reinstalling/redoing. But, I could just whittle it down?

@fluxanoia said in Vivaldi not opening properly with external hyperlinks:

Are there any settings in particular you want to know?

Just the setting for web browser under Default Apps and under "Choose by protocol".
But I think the Win10 settings are probably correct since Vivaldi actually launches.

I'm familiar with CMD, but not sure what to execute

            Something like:
            C:\Users\Fluxanoia\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\Application\vivaldi.exe <url>

            "C:\Users\Fluxanoia\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\Application\vivaldi.exe" --single-argument %1

            That looks correct.

Resetting my Default directory did seem to work, but obviously it resets everything

Yes, it was only for testing. Now at least we know it's something in your profile, a setting, an extension or similar.

Try disabling all extensions first, close Vivaldi and try again.

What are your settings in Vivaldi under General > Startup?

            > BTW, today I cannot connect to mozdev.org, would you know why?

Okay, I should have thought of this first, but it seems to be the result of an extension I have which wipes cookies/browsing history on start. I think I'll just find a better extension!

              Thanks for the help!

@fluxanoia Oh that's interesting, great you were able to find it!

                What extension is this?

I already uninstalled it, but I believe this was it.
