Crash in High Contrast (accessibility) mode
-
When a button on a website should open up in a new tab, instead it crashes. This is not the case for all buttons or links, but for many buttons and links on all sorts of websites.
Has anyone else experienced this or can you replicate it? -
@jalam9j Hello and Welcome to the Vivaldi Community
I can try to replicate this if you first give your Vivaldi version and OS from Help > About, then try to give an explanation of how to reproduce it, what theme is used in Windows, also preferably with a URL where the crash happens.
-
Thank you.
Here is some information:
Vivaldi 3.7.2218.52 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
Revision a466b7f17805f4e7b50302de5efa2a46eb62ba13
OS Windows 10 OS Version 2009 (Build 19042.928)
JavaScript V8 8.9.255.24I have it on a custom version of High Contrast Black. However, it also occurs in the regular High Contrast Black mode.
Unfortunately the websites I've experience the problem in recently are both ones where you have to create a username to access the part that has the buttons/links that cause this problem. I will try to find another more publicly accessible website to give as an example. It sort of seems to me like perhaps they are buttons/links that would be pop-up window type of things but they just open in a new tab.
Sorry for the lack of precise information at the moment. -
@jalam9j You mean something like this?
https://www.w3schools.com/jsref/tryit.asp?filename=tryjsref_win_openI can confirm the crash in Vivaldi 3.8 Stable, clean profile on Win10 x64. Apparently Vivaldi does not handle High Contrast themes in Windows very well, others have reported similar crashes.
Good find!
Please read:
- Help us reproduce your issue
- How to report a bug for Vivaldi
- How to report crashes on Windows, macOS, Linux
carefully and report the bug to Vivaldi bugtracker.
PS also update your browser to the latest version, even if it doesn't matter for this particular bug.

Okay thank you for letting me know it was confirmed. I am curious if there any plans to find a fix for it?
-
That's understandable. Thank you for fixing it!

Crash with enabled Windows High Contrast Mode whiel clicking on a link should be fixed in 4.2 Snapshot (and hopefully upcoming 4.2 Stable).
