Current time limit to edit forum post?
-
I had been updating https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/338066 forum post over several months, but can no longer edit it. I am still able to edit https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/435305 from about 5 months ago. What is the actual edit time limit for forum posts?
Is it just based on whether the post has been archived? If it is because it is in the archive, is there any method of un-archiving / reopening / renewing threads? I am a little surprised that https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/35443/backup-search-engines has not also been archived, despite being an even older thread.

@ukanuk What error message do you get? Do you not even have the Edit post option? I don't think there is any time limit. I just edited one of my posts from years ago.
-
When I click the three dots on that post, I don't even have the option to edit.
-
@ukanuk The thread is archived. No one can reply to it.
-
Hi,
Archived does not mean it can't be replied.
That happens just in Closed.--
I would paste the post into a Chat later.
Do your modifications and send it back, will post the update.Ok?
-
@Zalex108 It is closed for non-moderators even if it has no padlock icon, e.g. Any Word on M3 Internal Mail Client.
-
I've seen the Lock sometimes, maybe it's because now I'm on mobile.
I'll check later on the computer.

It's not worth your time to update the post for me every few months, each time I find another small update. I appreciate the offer though of course!
-
I'll ask.
-
@ukanuk There is no point in moving the topic from archived. You replied to a support and troubleshooting topic, no one but you visits there anymore and your edits are pointless. Open a new topic to share your post, for example on tricks & tips forum board. There is no reason why your effort should go to waste, as it does currently.

@luetage No one but me, the 8 people who liked my post, and the 4 people who bookmarked my post. It's not very many in the grand scheme of things, but more than anything else I've posted lol.
I can certainly see the argument for making a new post with the updates, since a new post would temporarily increase visibility and discussion. But with relatively niche topics like this, I personally find it annoying to have to search through multiple threads to find what I'm looking for.
Edit: only 4 people bookmarked my post, not 8.
-
@ukanuk Just making a new topic, then you can reply to it whenever you update and other users can provide input.
-
Actually,
Luetage's suggestion it's very good.
It could even be tagged as Guide. It's the join of every other URL suggestion right?
-
Search engines belong on the list I was compiling if they either:
- Have any custom suggest URL (whether or not Vivaldi currently supports it), or
- Are used by me personally (and I hope someone else can find a suggest URL even though I couldn't)

Right
-
Ok,
So,
We can unarchive the whole post, but:
I'm on Mobile and can't check the whole thing in a spot
Is your table compiling also the other URL suggestions mentioned on the Topic?
I mean,
If that's the case replicate the Topic's post as a first post and as Guide, would be better. There you can also add posts of the date updates as a dedicated topic for the suggestions.

@Zalex108 How do I create a Guide? I think one just adds the "Guide" tag, at least that's what I see on "guide" posts in https://forum.vivaldi.net/category/144/tips-tricks. But I don't see any post creation buttons to add tags.
Are you sure just having the "Guide" tag will prevent that thread from ever getting archived? If the post can still get archived anyway, and would have to be resurrected anyway, wouldn't it be better to resurrect https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/16991/search-suggestion-url and turn that into a guide? (And note, others are linking to it like https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/45856/where-can-i-find-search-suggestion-urls-for-custom-search-settings)
Also, I notice yet another related Guide at https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/39853/guide-vivaldi-search-and-suggestion-url-explanation-and-tutorial-simple, so commenting on their post would also probably be better than creating yet another guide.

Hi,
At some point last year, IIR, Tags were limited to MODS Section and to Moderators.
Also,
There's a problem which prevents a user to Edit it's own Topic/Posts if a Tag is added. So Tags box is not available for Regular Users.

About the Guide,
The best way I've found is to add theGuide |
to the Title as a Prefix.Old Guides may were moved to Archive, but maybe they are too old.
I'll check that you've posted and if necessary, move it back.If there's a Guide but is too old or not enough complete, you can contact the creator and ask to add your findings.
If there's some communication problem, (user not found, no time to manage it, ...), you can open up another Guide as an Extension and link to the old one as a reference and link. -
Thank you for converting the old thread with my post into a Guide, moving it to Tips & Tricks forum, and taking it out of archive!
-
You're welcome.
And related to:

Yes,
For some Topics is better to reactivate them than to open a new one.For old and largest Topics, would be useful to create another and link to it, to not have to read hundreds of pages at the begging, but just in case there's an amount of new and updated information for new versions.
In that case, both Topics should be linked, in the First and Last post to the acknowledge of all the users, old (subscribed) and new.
