      Optimization of vertical Window panel:

Double-clicking in the empty space below the tabs list in the window panel should open a new tab in the active window.

Generally the window panel should be able to serve as a REPLACEMENT of the tabs list (neither horizontal nor vertical tabs bar visible).

"sort manually" bar could be made much smaller as a square button and put into the same row as "search", and the "new tab" icon could then also be made smaller (as a square button) (combined tab icon with small plus sign in one graphic instead of two). Saves a line.

        • I am adding this info for users who are not aware of this: It is possible to activate tabs with just one click, in window panel --> see vivaldi option.

        • Note that the indentation distance to the left of the tabs need not be as wide/ space wasting) as it is at the moment.

@panda83 There is a + Button in the Window Panel toolbar to open a new tab.

            Hi,
my suggestions goes far beyond the new tab creation procedure. Also hitting a small button is much more tedious than a double click in a huge space below the tab list. That's why it also works in the tab bar/panel.

            Cheers

            Matthias

@panda83 Double-click already works to open a new tab, but only if the tabs are not at the top, where double-click is already in use to restore/maximise the window.

                Hello 🙂

I just came back after having used Firefox for over half a year and first thing I stilled missed was this feature that I was suggesting back then. Please allow me to just explain once more what I meant: On the WINDOW panel there is "Window" and "Closed Tabs". In the blank area below "closed tabs" one can right-click and then press "new tab" to create a new tab. All that I was suggesting that double-clicking into the empty space should have the the same effect (creating a new tab). This already works on the normal vertical tab list. So it would just be cool and really helpful it it also worked on the Window panel. Thank you for re-considering!!

                Cheers

                Matthias

@panda83 Don't hold your breath. This request has only 1 upvote after more than a year.

There are already several ways to open a new tab from the Window Panel:

                  • Right-click, New Tab
                  • Click the New Tab [+] button
                  • Use a keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+T, or Ctrl+N, or whatever you like)
                  • Use a mouse gesture (GestureDown is the default)
