Vivaldi on MacOS tabs stop responding to clicks
-
I have had a weird issue on recent versions of Vivaldi (3.5+), with this still repro'ing on MacOS.
3.7.2218.45 (Stable) on MacOS Catalina (10.15.5) on a Mac Mini (i7, NOT M1)This issues ONLY repro's on MacOS and NOT on Windows or Linux! Also, I did try un-install, re-install, removing profile files locally, etc, NONE of these resolved the issue.
The issue is for some reason tabs no longer respond to clicks, usually (but not necessarily) accompanied by Vivaldi "thinking" the page hasn't fully loaded.
Adding insult to injury, if I click the "X" button to stop loading, it has no effect. Furthermore, if I try to type a different URL into the address bar, it loads, but the clicking issue persists.
Literally the only fix is to quit vivaldi and relaunch. This issue is 100% repro'able and happens frequently, and is "forcing" me to use alternate browsers such as Safari and Opera.
I want to re-iterate that this issue SPANS MULTIPLE VERSIONS OF VIVALDI and only seems to manifest on macOS.
Can someone help investigate / fix?

@shassouneh2021 Any reason you have not updated to macOS 10.15.7 and the Supplemental Updates after it?
-
@Chas4 not an option. I'm on a 2011 mac mini and this is the furthest I could upgrade it to. I'm not exactly rich to swap out with overpriced apple hardware as often as I would like
-
@shassouneh2021 It is an option for you (I am not talking about the macOS 11 Big Sur upgrade but the updates for macOS Catalina 10.15)
-
@Chas4 no sir it is not. The last supported version of macos for this specific Mac mini is 10.12. This version was installed via dosdude patch, with the latest available being 10.15.5 (I just did it again and it downloaded a fresh image which ended up also being the same version) . BIG sur is not supported on this Mac, neither natively or otherwise and this Mac doesn't have a metal gpu so not a realistic option anyways.
All that being said 10.15.5 should be current "enough" for this vivaldi bug not to manifest.

@shassouneh2021
FWIW I upgraded to 10.5.7 (not sure how to get Supplemental updates) but will see if Vivaldi issue repro's -
Just wanted to say the Issue still repro's
"Forced" to use Opera for the time being

On Vivaldi 3.8.2259.42?
-
@chas4 said in Vivaldi on MacOS tabs stop responding to clicks:
On Vivaldi 3.8.2259.42?
Just upgraded from 3.8.2259.37 to 3.8.2259.42
However, this issue has been ongoing since at least 3.5.xxxx.yy so I doubt the .37 to .42 change will fix it.

Still repro's on 4.0

Is macOS 10.15 itself updated?
-
@Chas4 It is somewhat updated. Running Catalina 10.15.7. The DosDude patcher doesnt tell me what version it would be downloading if I wanted to update that way, so i would be forced to do a full os upgrade to find out.
-
Just did some digging. The MacOS Catalina patcher (which I use to update the OS unofficially) would be downloading/installing 10.15.7.0.0.1600727528
So if anything it is a very very minor update.
Given this issue with Vivaldi has persisted across several versions of BOTH MacOS and Vivaldi itself, i doubt system updates will do much to resolve this.
And for the record, I am not a fan of ARM architecture, nor am I filthy rich to buy newer mac hardware anyways
