[Feature Requests] Give us an option to disable expanding tab thumbnails

  • I use middle click to close tabs a lot, and I frequently middle click just low enough so that the thumbnails expand. It's really frustrating. Another feature I'd like is to be able to set a custom colour for the interface, instead of choosing either the web page's colour or nothing.

  • I use the middle click a lot, too, since the "stone age" (the early Opera days) but I didn't even know that was possible to expand the tab bar with the middle button.

And even after I read your message I spent 5 minutes trying to do so.

    In short

#1 I'm not sure it's intended (I'll investigate with the devs tomorrow)

#2 to me seem pretty odd that you do by mistake something that required me a lot of attempts, something like killing the boss at the end of a videogame :)

Maybe your mouse microswitches are affected by microbounching? Did you try another mouse?

  • Some attempts were necessary to accomplish the expanding of the tab bar. You have to middle click when the pointer switches to a double arrow between tab bar and URL / Search bar. Always the middle click is working, if the pointer has changed its appearance. Therefore I don't think there is a problem with the mouse of the original poster. From my point of view it looks like a feature because you can also expand the tab bar by dragging down the pointer holding down the left mouse button when there is the double arrow.

    +1
Use Page theme color in user interface is no doubt a good option but not for me. The interface is really too flashy then to my taste and my eyes are drawn to the interface rather than by the content.
Without, is at opposite, somewhat bland but I still prefer currently.

    2 other comments on interface:

    • The access to bookmarks could be optimized with a button on the tab bar > Bookmark menu > Single clic > Close.
Currently we need to open the side panel (or F6), do a double click to open the bookmark and then hide the side panel with the tiny bottom left button. Not really top.
However the Bookmarks in the side panel is well to edit or organize favorites And I appreciate the folder choice for the bookmarks bar :)
    • The trash button (or historical) on the tab bar should rather be in the sidebar. a matter of taste, maybe.

  • There are three ways to expanding thumbnails.
Middle clicking, left clicking - holding - dragging, and double clicking.
And yeah, expanding it can happen on accident. If you don't want to use this feature I can see how it is annoying. Why not make a simple option to disable it? I don't see what's wrong with that. Makes sense.

  • For the record I found it difficult to get it by middle click because I tried to drag the bar, just like with left button.

Now is clear that with a steady middle click over the horizontal divider the feature can be triggered consistently.

Easy way to fix it: open bundle.js in a text editor. Replace
    this.state.TAB_POSITION?(this.state.tabsHeight>C+18?
    with
    this.state.TAB_POSITION?(true?
Or you can download fixed bundle js for your Vivaldi version here http://justdanpo.ru/vivaldi

  • Me too. I always use middle click. Tab thumbnail accidentally show many times. It's really annoying. It makes me crazy

Didn't you need to untick "Show Tab Thumbnails" in these days Vivaldi?

  • @dLeon Oh! Thank you very much. It work! :tada:

  • It should be awesome if Vivaldi can show tab thumbnail on mouse hover like Firefox Tab Scope.

Vivaldi has popup thumbnail on hover. It's the option one line above answer of previous question.

    For the rest, like;

    • Navigate (Back/Forward/Reload/Stop) through popup
    • Scroll pages or frames in preview with mouse wheel
    • Click links or buttons directly in preview
    • Automatically show preview for tabs opened in background

Feel free to post in current Feature requests for 1.9 / 1.10, so people could also vote it.

I suggest to post like those points above, as pointing to AddOns will limit understanding to just anyone who ever use it.

  • @dLeon I don't understant that option meaning at first time. Thank you very much. I know now. Work like a charm!

    OK. I'm too lazy.
    I'll see that topic, thanks.
