Mail Not Changing Sorting Order
-
I want to change the sorting order of my mail, probably by putting unread messages on top. However, when I click on the drop down menu, I can click on other options but it goes back to "Sort by received date," and I cannot change it. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

You're right - I have also been annoyed by the fact I can't sort on anything except date. I expect it's something they haven't implemented yet but it will come...

The thing is, I see a drop-down menu of other options for sorting, it just doesn't work. Is that just because it is an experimental feature and will work soon?
-
@code3 It's still a technical preview, not even beta, so I would say yes. I'm sure there are plenty of things they have to get right before it's released to normal users - and sort order must be one of them.
-
@mossman Ok. Sometimes I forget it's still a preview
-
@code3 You can click on
Date
(of the date-column in messages) and the order switches to opposite: from latest to oldest and vice versa.If you want to have the unread messages there is an extra main filter for it.
Different to the folder-order in other mail-clients M3 is based on filters.This said you haven't displayed the Inbox only, but Inbox is filtered in
Received
andUnread
.If you have a lot of unread messages and want to change the order by date do it as I said before.
At the moment you have to mark the unread messages as
read
manually by clickingk
on keyboard.
There should be an automatic read when opened too imo. -

You should also be able to click the column headers to sort on sender, title, size...

@mossman Thank you, I agree. And I love to upvote this of course.

And we are still waiting for this important feature since months...
Or has somebody found a solution in the meantime? -
@usermicha You can sort by Sender, Subject, and Date in the current snapshot version of Vivaldi (5.1.2519.3) and I think some versions before now too.
Development of the "M3" email client is ongoing, things are changing fast.

Or has somebody found a solution in the meantime?I noticed you could suddenly sort mail by clicking the different columns during the final release candidates for Vivaldi 5. I commented on it in the snapshot forums and... no-one replied!
So in fact this feature has been implemented for a few weeks already!

Oh, wow, you're right! I was still working with 4.3.2439.39 (Stable channel) (32-Bit), because I have disabled the automatic updates. The reason is that I use custompanel.js to be able to zoom the web panel. And unfortunately I have to install that again by hand after every update.
Thanks for the tip! -
@usermicha I got a script to get my
custom.js
automatically activated after update. Look here.
As I'm using Linux the script is easier to implement than on Windows. (On my parallel installed Windows I still do it manually).
However, you might get some advice or support here in the forum if you have questions about it. -

Where? Sorry, I must have missed that.
But as has been mentioned it is implemented for the Sender, Subject, and Date -

[Mail] Sorting by sender can put mail into unusable state (VB-83891)
Wait... since when could we finally sort mail?!? That's a massive (and long overdue) improvement!
I was expecting comments from other users to say I was stupid for missing the announcement...

@mossman
You weren't far behind. Went out in snapshot on the 27th of October[Mail] Mail list sorting (VB-28216)

I don't think you should consider it your responsibility to inform us in all threads that might be related to a bug you just fixed. We appreciate that you do this and if you get some positive feedback because of it, by all means, get yourself some well deserved praise. Obviously, this is not an altruistic statement, I just hope this will give you the motivation to head off and fix the next one
-
@wildente
No worries. I didn't even fix this one
It was @gudmundurg74 -
