Around the World No. 11

  • Name and location of the "waterless" falls please. :silly: (Waterless when I shot this picture. Are there people down there? Looks like it!) EDIT: Not Asia! [img][/img]

  • My guess is: Waterless Urinal in the Philippines.
Edit: I did not see the people down there. Are we in Asia?

  • I did some slight enhancement of the image for better colors and details as far as possible, but it still didn't help …

  • Nice Job of enhancement.
I guess I took my photo in the mid-80's sometime, so I had to scan it in. We went there in the "dry season." But when it rains, there is waterfalls. Those things on the rim are picnic tables. So it is possible to get close to this place by car.
I hope these clues in red help in your search. One word is critical. From there it's all down hill. Ha! Ha!

  • The hint with the cars and camping tables might have given it away 😃

I guess it in the the Colorado river area, because I have seen similar formations and colors in the Grand Canyon when I was there but it didn't quite match (Of course I didn't see everything of it :D), those scrubby bushes in the foreground looked somewhat familiar for that region too and I think I remember a story about lava blocking the river at least once, so my guess:

Arizona, the Grand Falls (sometimes called Chocolate Falls) of the Little Colorado.

While searching for the name I stumbled over this image (with water):
and this, with almost no water:
Sadly both images are made from the other direction, but this seems to be right:

To me it looks similar enough to be the same falls.

  • I did catch the lack of trees and the muddy water, the so-called picnic tables … maybe they are shelters? I was going to say somewhere in the Southwest also ... though actually, the "muddy water" wouldn't last long there. Hmm ... I'll guess somewhere in the Northwest - the lava wouldn't allow trees to grow on it anyway. Near Yellowstone, or somewhere near Mt. St. Helens.

    Congrats QuHno!!!!!!!

Grand Falls, Arizona USA (aka the "Chocolate Falls" Yum! Yum!) up on the Little Colorado River, NE of Flagstaff on the Navajo Indian Reservation.

The critical word, I felt, was MUDDY, because when I Google searched "muddy waterfalls" I picked up the waterfalls in question - not immediately, I had to do a little scrolling first, while looking for the characteristics of the photo. And when I asked for more images it appeared again.

  • I didn't find it that way, it was really the cars that finally fixed me to thinking "USA" - and if you think about USA and canyon there is only one real choice …
(Yes, I know that there are more, but not with that structure - Bryce is extremely nice, I climbed through it for some days)
... so, in the end it looked somewhat familiar to what I saw in the 80s when I was near that region, but it did not fit quite. Finally I decided just to follow the Colorado in Google maps and there they were 😃
