Is there an SMTP problem?
-
I'm in the UK and using Thunderbird on windows 10 and not able to send using the smtp settings that have worked up til now. I tried with the M3 (if that's what we're calling it) client and all I get is an error (Vivaldi now object Object)
The webmail interface works fine. -
I am having the same problem. I am using Thunderbird 78.8.0 on Debian 10. I was previously using Thunderbird on NetRunner with no issues. I can receive email, but cannot send anything. I have not changed the SMTP settings. Removing and adding the account does not solve the problem.
As with @Flaxthejute, the webmail interface works fine. -
Yes, I am using my [email protected] account. Vivaldi browser settings are as follows:

OS Linux
JavaScript V8 8.8.278.14
User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/88.0.4324.99 Safari/537.36
Command Line /usr/bin/vivaldi-stable --flag-switches-begin --flag-switches-end --origin-trial-disabled-features=SecurePaymentConfirmation --save-page-as-mhtml
Executable Path /opt/vivaldi/vivaldi

@Gwen-Dragon said in Is there an SMTP problem?:
I tested some minutes ago and i could send with Vivaldi Mail to my account.
Do you use settings for mail?
I think you misunderstand. It's sending from Thunderbird that's the problem. As both @Flaxthejute and I say, sending from webmail via Vivaldi browser ISN'T a problem.
Yes, I used the SMTP settings from the link you gave. It did not help.

I am using Thunderbird 78.8.0 on Debian 10.

$ cat /etc/debian_version

No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Debian

What is interesting is that @Flaxthejute is also having the same issue and s/he's on Windows 10...
-
Thank you, I shall do that.

According to our uptime checks which are run from an independent data center, there have been no issues with our SMTP server in at least the past 2 months. Could it be that port 465 and/or 587 are being blocked by something else on your network, or your ISP?
-
@boruta I don't know of any sensible reason (though of course firewalls can certainly allow connections to some hosts and not to others), but I have tested
smtp.vivaldi.net
from multiple locations and it is working fine from all. -
no connection to smtp.vivaldi.net, timeout
"invalid root certificate, identity cannot be verified"
Those would appear to be 2 unrelated issues, as a certificate problem would not normally present as a timeout.
The certificate error would indicate that your phone lacks the relevant root certificate. The certificate chain for
smtp.vivaldi.net
is as follows:CN = smtp.vivaldi.net
C = US, O = Let's Encrypt, CN = R3
O = Digital Signature Trust Co., CN = DST Root CA X3
Thus your phone apparently does not have the
DST Root CA X3
certificate installed, which would also result in a vast number of websites not working (eg. anything signed by Let's Encrypt). I can't offer much advice other than to make sure your phone has all relevant OS updates installed.Finally, the DNSSEC report you have posted a screenshot of is unrelated to SSL certification, and is exactly the result I would expect to see, as we do not use DNSSEC on our domains.

@boruta
I confirm. I have had this problem for a few days now. mail client (none) works with vivaldi mail. in order to check (send / read) e-mail you have to enter the account. I have (and had) correct all the settings -
@thomasp
I have the same problem on all my devices so it's not a problem with his phone. -
@boruta mam dokładnie tak samo. maile ze wszystkich innych miejsc dochodzą i mogę na nie odpowiadać, tylko te z i do vivaldiego nie chcą dojść i nie można na nie odpowiedzieć.
-
@tutti Do you get a certificate error, a timeout, or something else?
-
@thomasp
TLS handshake failed
ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSED
or the waiting wheel is just spinning, spinning and spinning and no effect -
@tutti and @boruta are you by any chance on the same ISP?
-
Also, to aid debugging, if either of you have access to a linux command-line, please try running the following commands:
traceroute smtp.vivaldi.net
openssl s_client -connect smtp.vivaldi.net:465 -quiet
