Quick Commands and Speed Dial updates – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2209.3

@luetage because there are some searches that cannot be completed using the address bar, like code searches.
-
Please, for the sake of our sanity: Set
.thumbnail-image img
toobject-fit: contain; object-position: center;
So we don't have to have to use exact bloody pixel-perfect dimensions for our custom thumbnails...
I can deal with SD mods breakage, I don't have a lot of modding there anyway, but this is such a small change and would be a big help.
Also please add an option to
not show the faviconshave the text centred under the thumbnail. The favicon is useless when we're using custom thumbs of the site icon anyway. EDIT: I see now we have an option to not show the favicons -
@Pathduck Or basically instead of this:
[New][Speed Dial][Settings] Updated layout for Start Page Speed Dials: like Android (VB-72606)
(that literally no one asked for in this forum, or I haven't read the latest 5-6 "Snapshots" thoroughly enough)do this:
[New][Speed Dial][Settings] Updated layout for Start Page Speed Dials: like Desktop (VBA-72606)
-
I see that many people don't like the new speed dials. I have to say though, I like the new look a lot

Imo
Pros:
- the url text is no longer in the rounded field:
- now we have favicons
Cons:
- the url text now inside the whole frame
- thumbs are still 3:4
-
The problem that was introduced in the previous snapshot (2202.3) where links are treated like text when it comes to pressing on them with the right mouse button, triggering the associated pop up context menu, remains unsolved in this snapshot (2209.3) for MacOS.

latest Firefox release indroduce feature "Total Cookie Protection"

Thanks for the new build!
I understand the Speed Dials will be brought back to "normal"? They look... weird and elongated, and the text appears only on mouse-over for me.
I'm not a big fan of the new tab drag/reorder either. I'm creating tab stacks more often without wanting it and it's harder to see. The previous iteration worked better IMO. -

looks like a great feature, but why it was introduced so late...

How to download support Apple M
1 version -
84th (another later in the day update)

At first I didn't like the new layout of speeddial, but now I'm starting to like it more than the previuous version.
The size of speed dials is a bit bigger than the older one. -
@plovec It would be fine for me if the issue with transparency and the border could be fixed. I only have a few dozen thumbnails to recreate. However, some users have many speed dial thumbs. It is important that they look right.
Sizes @ 100% UI Zoom
- Tiny = 130 pixels
- Small = 180 pixels
- Default = 230 pixels
- Large = 280 pixels
- Huge = 330 pixels
-
@pesala: Yes, I agree with you. I also have some custom thumbs that are of the wrong size, now. That was the purpose of my comment, but I understand it was not clear.
-
It would be useful to add an option to revert back to the aftermarket speed dial look, as personally this one now looks much less aesthetically pleasing. Couldn't it be done like that right away ? I thought you were focusing on the options, not imposing the look from the top. I hope this will be fixed soon.

Hi,
@atlemo said in Quick Commands and Speed Dial updates – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2209.3:
@npro: [...] aspect ratio [...] will be fixed in next update.
Do this means that will be an option for Wide SD Thumbnails?
Thank you

Transparency is broken also for PNG not just when using a CSS Mod.
-
@Zalex108 You need to override opacity with
!important
on the.speeddial .dial
element, because opacity now is specified directly on the element.PS favicons (and title) can be hidden in Settings > Start Page, don't need CSS hide for that.
I also hope the a/r and border will be fixed, then it won't be so bad
The update also completely broke
speeddial-spacing
from VivaldiHooks, but that's to be expected with such a big change... -
