And again - very simple questions: 1. Where is it? 2. What is it?

some aurora borealis somewhere probably in the northern regions. When seeing the stars it should be quite dark, so I assume that the red light in the background is not necessarily the sun?
If not: There aren't that many active volcanic regions where you can see auroras aka polar light - let me think: Iceland?
… but right at the moment you should be able to see them in Norway too as our sun hickuped a veritable M-class flare about 2 days ago. That stuff should arrive any moment

Well, you almost win
If you will have a closer look at the photo - you will see that red light highlighted the bottom side of clouds
And I'm not sure that you can see the nice sunset and stars at the same time -
if it is no recent image, I would say it is that volcano with the long unpronounceable (for me) name - Eyjafjallajökul but then it must have been in the end phase ….
If it is a recent image, it should be the Bardarbunga - the flat region would call for that ...
-
Yes, you are right: it's a Bardarbunga volcano that currently erupted. I saw this volcano from the airplane three days ago when arrived to Iceland

Very Nice. Congrats QuHno.
Mr. Shpankov,
Would you be so kind and tell us the time and date the photo was taken? And the general direction it was looking: E, W, NE, NW?
I would like to try and match-up the star pattern in the photo with a star chart.
ThanksSorry, but it's not my photo - I had found it here.
Also there are a few similar photos:
etc.

When I look at the historic data for the aurora ovals, the aurora should be in the north, so the camera should point to the west-
I might have missed a bigger flare that could have pushed the oval farther to the south, but it is unlikely, there wasn't that much activity this year …BTW: Luckily the telegraph printed the name of the photographer, so I could find a better image by him, almost at the same location, probably at the same time:
