subfolders inside/outside inbox?
-
i can't find anything conclusive on the web about whether to put subfolders
inside the inbox
INBOX
folderA
folderBor
outside the inbox
INBOX
folderA
folderBi've always done the latter, but never thought why.
i can see it might be an advantage when there are a lot of subfolders, because you can hide them inside the INBOX, but you could just create one subfolder such as FOLDERS and hide them inside that one.
is there a logical rationale for doing it one way or another?
(i'm in the process of moving all communications from my messy gmail, to vivaldi and am trying to do things intelligently).

@pradagio
Hi, do you use IMAP for mail?
If yes all folders created in Gmail are imported in Vivaldi mail, all filters, too.
It create all folder inside INBOX.
It make sense to me because it quickly becomes confusing if you use more than one account if you put the folder outside.Cheers, mib

hey thx!
i didn't know i could import from gmail, but then i don't really want to because i need a fresh start.
my folders in gmail are outside the inbox, but i see your point. -
Assuming you have a use case where you also want to move sent items into a folder (say, for a full email archive), having that folder in the Inbox doesn't make too much sense to me. Then again, folders don't make too much sense to me what with flags and great search.

that's a good point about a full archive. i use a filter to put sent items together with received. in evolution, i just discovered that i don't really need the filters because i can ask for reply items to go into the same folder.
i'm going to think about your flags idea combined with searches. i use the latter, but haven't used the former in combination ... yet!
