This Script Exports Full Bookmark Data to HTML
-
@Gwen-Dragon -- Could you please add tags Bookmarks and Export to this topic, in case anyone is still using tags for search?
-
Hi @Gwen-Dragon -- Did you miss my request to add Bookmarks and Export tags to this topic? I probably should not have posted requests for two different topics at the same time with nearly identical wording.

@GJS said in This Script Exports Full Bookmark Data to HTML:
Optionally, it also reads icon data from the Favicons SQLite database
Hi,
Does also export them?
Thank you
-
@Zalex108 - Yes. Export of icons and URIs is controlled by the
-icons
and-uris
command line options. -
Thanks
-
@Gwen-Dragon - Thanks - No worries.

@GJS
What is wrong with saving bookmarks the easy way? If you go to File > Export Bookmarks, Vivaldi will save the bookmarks as HTML. -
@Streptococcus -- The link at the top of the main article (Re: Import/Export ALL Supported Bookmark Properties) summarizes the limitations of Vivaldi's Export Bookmarks function, and links to some previous discussions about them.

No Nickname - I never noticed that. I have only one of them anyway. I can remember that.

@gjs Many thanks for the script. It ran unmodified on Devuan Linux, apart from the first line which has to be "#!/usr/bin/perl" on my system.
I did run it and let it crash 4 times in order to find which libraries were missing, installing the error-causing one each time.
I'm a fomer Perl programmer too. Long retired.
-
@stevegraham -- You're welcome.
In my UNIX days (late 20th century) perl seemed to be installed in a different location on every system I used, so I just put
#!perl
in my scripts to find the interpreter on my PATH. I have not used Linux, but I thought it would probably work there too. If not, I could add a note in the documentation.Were any of the missing libraries outside the list of
use
statements in the script? If so, do you think they would also be worth mentioning in the documentation? -
@gjs I had started to dive into the nitty-gritty of bookmarks.html vs Bookmarks (mostly re the missing SHORTCUTURL/nickname thing) and was on the cusp of starting to write my own script when I found yours... thanks for that! It saved me quite some work and seems to do a superb job.
I know the Vivaldi guys have a lot on their plates but adding this to the HTML import is something that especially power users will appreciate.
Again THX and keep up the good work
