Browser becomes unusable after attempting to change a themes color to #000000 while logged into sync
-
I attempted to set a theme's background color to #000000, and the browser froze in place. I could scroll and audio would play, but I couldn't interact in any other form. After quitting exiting and relaunching, the browser would show up as either all white, or in a darkened half-loaded form.
I decided to reinstall and decided on a standalone install. On a fresh install I could set it to #000 no problem even, it even persisted after logging into sync; however, changing the value to something else and back to #000 bricked the browser. I tried this again both before and after enabling the custom css ui modifications, and both times it would brick.

@rinnuo Changing the background color doesn’t brick the browser, that’s impossible. A reinstall wouldn’t fix anything in the first place, since settings and preferences affect your profile, not the application. You gotta find out what really happened. Visit Vivaldi settings and open devtools, if it happens again. Switch to console and look for errors.

@rinnuo Maybe you got lucky and found a rare bug! Gotta collect 'em all
First go through the steps in the troubleshooting guide:
https://help.vivaldi.com/article/troubleshooting-issues/It might sound like a graphic driver bug, so make sure your graphic card drivers are updated.
If you can reproduce this issue in a clean standalone profile, make sure to write down a step-by-step guide how to reproduce it and post a bug here:
https://vivaldi.com/bugreport/Write down as much on your system as possible, including GPU and Anti-virus.

It is reproducible on standalone install, changing the color to #000 is what caused it, and only after logging into sync.
If changing the color triggers something else I wouldn't know, but I figured since this is reproducible and I gave the steps that would be enough.I can change the color to any other value besides #000.
It all points to that being the issue, and I figured even if it is such a rare case it should have been reported.I will submit this to that link you posted, thank you.
(BTW I don't even want to set it to #000, I only found this out dragging the color picker around and it froze at #000)

@rinnuo said in BUG REPORT: Browser becomes unusable after attempting to change a themes color to #000000 while logged into sync:

I'm sorry but you did not. I cannot reproduce it here, even though I've tried several times. For your bug report to even be noticed by the team and not closed as "not reproducible" you need to be more specific.
Something like:
- Clean standalone install of Vivaldi 3.6.2165.3
- Open Vivaldi
- Go to Settings > Sync and log in to account
- Go to Setting > Themes, click Edit Theme
- Change Background colour to "000000".
This is what I tried, and it did not trigger any hang. Add whatever extra steps you did to reproduce the issue.
My guess what happened is: After enabling Sync, the browser will experience some hangs while bookmarks/history/extensions etc are being downloaded and installed. Depending on how large your bookmarks/history and how many extensions you use, and your CPU, this could last for a while. If you close the browser during this process because you think it's "hanging" it could very well end up in a bugged state.

@Pathduck Those were all the steps, I took. The first time this happened was during normal session, so it wasn't downloading or installing my data/extensions.
I waited quite a long time to see if it would come back and it wouldn't.
My computer isn't slow if that's why you think that.Perhaps there is an issue with my synced data but I wouldn't know.
I submitted a report and I tried to be more clear about it there, apologies for my lack of info here.
