Happy New Year – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2160.3
-
@legobuilder26: yes and now it is. Thanks!
-
@guigirl confirmed everything gets blocked as it should.
-
@Ruarí Great way to restart, very fat update with lots of fixes, love it.
-
-
I don't know if it's related to this fix causing a regression:
[Address bar] Content no longer selected on new tab/new window (VB-73936)
but now speed dial page is focused when going back from a page opened from it, instead of having the address focused
- open new tab with speed dial, address is focused (setting Focus on page content on New Tab disabled)
- click on any speed dial thumb for opening a site, site is focused instead of the address, ok
- back space or gesture to go back to the speed dial, first thumb is selected and focus is on page instead of address.
I can file a bugreport if confirmed.

@Agych Manifest V3 at some point will cause the deprecation of the webrequest api blocking abilities that will break ublock, yet there's still some time for that to happen and right now both, manifest v3 and the webrequest api, will coexist without problems.
So as long as google doesn't remove the webrequest api or its blocking capabilities everything will be fine, and i hope someone, hopefully vivaldi team, will be able to maintain the webrequest api if the new manifest v3 ends being insufficient for having a proper adblocker.

-
@sdar:
Well that's what Vivaldi promised as i remember, they said they are not going to follow the deletion of the webrequest api.
A chromium-based browser with manifest v3 only and with webrequest api removed cannot be accepted as a browser. -
@Agych sorry i have not read this entire thread,so how will vivaldi keep the v2 api if the chromium base removes it.
-
@Priest72 Modding the base. But the argument is kinda mute. When extensions stop working on Chrome they stop being distributed by the Chrome web store, or change to work with the new set of rules/limitations. This will happen sometime in 2022.
-
@priest72:
Well, by adding it back to the base i guess?
This question should go to the devs -
RSS still not showing picture on this feed. On others that I use it's fine.
-
When extensions stop working on Chrome they stop being distributed by the Chrome web store.
Yeah a new store should need to be created as chrome will not host extensions that won't work on chrome, i wonder if this could be a joint effort so a store could be created for all the blink based browsers that want to retain manifest v2 apis or even expand the current apis to add more functionality instead of being at the whims of google.
-
@luetage From what i understand the amount of rules will be restricted to a certain amount.I am not certain if this cripples UBO in any form.
-
Wowsers, you guys really have been hard at work huh? For the first update of 2021, this looks very chunky

I can confirm this regression, in old Snapshot the URL bar is focused when going back to SD. Good find!
-
@Pathduck Thanks for the confirmation, VB-75812 filed

Is that the spelling?
-
@sjudenim No, it should be moot in Europe too.
