Block Video autoplay
-
Is there a way to stop videos from automatically playing in web pages? I don't watch TV and don't want %&^* commercials on my computer either (except when I choose to play them.) Sorry if this has been discussed. Found nothing in searching here.

You can set this at the Chromium internal page at chrome://settings/content
And, yes, it's been discussed a TON!

If that's the case, is similar setting available to block audio autoplay? It sounds reasonable to have one, and if such exists, why there's a need for Tab Audio button? I assume, it was asked for, since at opening some new tabs or saved sessions, certain tabs may start auto playing video and/or audio, despite they aren't active at the moment.
I can see another application for Tab Audio button though, if someone listens to a radio or music playing in a certain tab, and then wants to pause it.

I can't find any setting in there to disable autoplay for html5 videos, am I missing something or was it just assumed that the topic was for videos played via plugins like Flash?
I did however find a working extension that does this in the chrome web store called "Disable html5 autoplay" or something like that and it's working fine so far for me.

@ayespy It has been discussed a ton
but nothing has been doneYour solution does not work.
Let's get it to work again.
MS Edge browser has a way in its Settings -
@sanyaiv A moderator says this capability should "be baked in" but here we are 6 years later and has anything been put into the oven yet?
-
@rodndtube My solution from seven years ago applied to Flash videos - and Flash no longer exists. I have not proposed a solution for modern autoplay videos other than an extension, because I do not know of one. Yes, Edge has the option. It would seem no one else does yet.

@ayespy, it may have been another Vivaldi Forum "VIP" that said the solution to this problem should be baked into the browser software. I agree, because it is a problem not a "nice to have feature" and I am one who applauds Vivaldi for its features, but the core program comes first in matters of security, reliability and stability.

@rodndtube "Nice to have" often means "this is going to be devilishly hard to do."

I have a "nice to have" request, one that has actually been submitted (being able to iconize a bookmark folder or customize a bookmark icon, as was possible just 3 years ago in Firefox and fairly standard in many other browsers); but, the Video Autoplay is just plain evil, evil to remove the ability to prevent it.
-
@rodndtube Vivaldi never had the ability to stop autoplay in its current iteration. I hope that ability will be added sooner than later.
