What have you been baking?
-
This Christmas is a bit special. Normally we would be sharing it with a lot of family. Due to Covid, however, people are staying home, so there is a lot less of us. Wanting to get into the Christmas spirit, even without all the family, I decided to do some baking. I have made Icelandic Kleinur and I have plans to do some more. That got me thinking... What have you been baking?
-
@jon Somehow that also looks like something I else I think youยดre fond of: fried chicken. Coincidence?
-
@torotime , probably is. Although I enjoy fried chicken and even fish and chips, there is a very different feeling relating to this food. For me this is Christmas. I remember making this with my grandmother as a kid. We would make this every Christmas. Fried chicken is something I would taste later in my life as we got Southern Fried Chicken and KFC in Iceland. I have never made chicken like that myself.
-
@BlackDaug , sounds yummy!
-
@jon I call them Cyclopes, some of them have lost their eye though. Terrible tragedy, especially so close to Christmas.
-
@luetage , they do look very good!
-
@jon I'll admit I had to look up "Kleinur", sounds good, actually excellent. Now I'm hungry
Got a recipe and will try them for our limited Christmas.
Thanks for posting... -
@greybeard , enjoy! I used peanut oil for the frying this time. I think that worked out pretty nicely. Otherwise I am using an old recipe from the Icelandic cookbook "Matur og Drykkur", which basically means food and drink.

Just tried again my V-shortbread-cookies , very good with coffee in a Vivaldi mug :face_with_stuck-out_tongue_winking_eye:
made (with difficulties and) the @atlemo's 3D-printed cookie cutter

Unfortunately my pastry arts are limited, I usually get the chemical miracle of turning the dough into reinforced concrete or graphene. For this reason I have to limit myself to those that I buy in the bakery.
But in any case, the important thing is to spend the holidays with loved and healthy people, which I wish you all. -
@ra-mon , now that is impressive!
-
@ra-mon Brilliant!

I am of middle age and unfortunately my baking skills were left behind at cookery lessons in school.
I am from england so i am more of a "fry-up" or good old fish and chips sort of eater,
I know it sounds terribly lazy but i am not inclined to do cookery..that is a females job lol. -
I'm not that good at cooking, but now i want a midnight snack. :face_savouring_delicious_food:

@Folgore101 Here's one:
-
@Folgore101 ,mi wife and I do not really want to spend Christmas hours in the kitchen, we have agreed that a fondue would be the most successful and just as festive.
-
Alone, no family.
And that night I just eat bread with milk and I sit down out of door at the shopping mall -
-
@Poto , that sounds tough.

@jon said in What have you been baking?:
Kleinur
I've put this on the list to try and make over the holiday. Looks fantastic!
Been baking a lot of bread here on the gloomy Welsh border... dunking it in Italian stews and peppery potato soups.
Not seen the sun for days so wintering myself well on soups, stews and pies
Christmas whiskey has turned up which is a bottle of Welsh single malt from the Penderyn distillery.
I'm sorted for Xmas.... hope you are too
