Two-level Tab Stacks – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2130.3

Feels Opera-Presto style
No way. In Presto I could move the tabs between the stacks and open multiple stacks at the same time - and the screen didn't move when you did so.
-
This new tab stacking is quite something. Makes me wish I could set the second level to display elsewhere (e.g. tabs display on top, tab stack second level displays on the bottom).
Also, this really makes me wish that pressing
cmd + T
while inside a tab stack would open the new tab inside the tab stack. -
@ChimeraTech0 said in Two-level Tab Stacks – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2130.3:
When you have a two-level tab stack selected, you should see this lock icon on the right side. Clicking that will make sure the two-level doesn't disappear when switching to individual tabs
I wonder if this should affect only the current window? Since it affects all windows the option really belongs in Settings next to the two row tab stacking radio button.

@ChimeraTech0 Wow, it would have been a while before I looked there. It's a very subtle change, but I see what it does now.
BTW, they might want to consider changing that icon to make locked/unlocked a little more readily apparent. Yes, it's easy to see when zoomed in, but not otherwise, at least on modern resolutions.

I think that these two options for a tab stack (2-level and 1-level) are different features and should not replace one with the other. Both options can be useful for one person.
The second row of tabs is for many tabs so as not to get lost in them. The option with the absence of the second row is good and sufficient for a small number of tabs, as well as for the mode of tiled tabs in the stack (their contents will be displayed at the same time, so the second row of tabs will only be a waste of screen space). -
@Asires i think will be done that way. Is just a stepping stone for a "stack view options" (and maybe for tree tabs). Is still experimental, after all.

As I was fiddling with the new "2-level tab-stacking" which is works btw, I stumbled on a major regression.I can no longer drag the address-bar down (or double-click just above it) to get "tab previews": See picture below:This feature is a life-saver, and I was very glad it was brought over to Vivaldi from Opera. I checked with all options for "Tab Stacking", inc "disabled", same (lack of) result. I hope it's a mistake rather than part of the the plan.I've only just started trying the "snapshot" version, so can't say when this regression came in.(edit) This was a my mistake: I'd missed the "Show Tab Thumbnails" setting.

@phyddeaux Could be related to the new feature. Try to disable the experiment, restart and retry.
If it works without the 2nd level is still a bug you may want to report; If it don't is also a bug. -
i just update to latest snapshot.
and now there is an ugly border around the address bar, and ugly border between the page content and navigation barbefore update:
after update:
i have not enabled the tab experiment, simply updated to latest snapshot.
how can i get rid of that border? -
also accent colours are incorrect now
before:
after:
-
@Jenoki ok, setting "contrast adjustment" to -2 fixes the border and correct accent colour.
-
Definitely, this is VERY GOOD. Nice job! All of you!
Edit: Seriously I love this feature
-
@Jenoki yeah there is some seriously weird issues with this new contrast adjustment behaviour...
-
another bug in this snapshot:
if you have a custom page for your "new tab"
and open a link from that page, the favicon will not load.
-
@Jenoki actually, even if you type the url in the address bar of the new tab page, the favicon will not load.
-
how do you make tab stacking easier? I drag a tab to another tab and its sometimes difficult for them to stack, I have to move it around a lot before it could highlight to stack
-
@jenoki: Could you make a bug on this please ?
-
@archive1: There is a setting you can adjust under the Tab Stack Options called "Stacking Drop Delay" if you set that to short, it should let you stack the tab pretty much immediately upon contact with another tab
