Focus issues using keyboard
-
Reading feeds and trying to use the keyboard for faster navigation is a bit of a pain.
So far I have figured out the following:
- F7 to focus the mail panel
- cursor up and down to select feed index (or "feeds" for all feeds)
- press enter
- sometimes need to F9 to switch to the list of feed articles
- sometimes need to cursor up,down to locate the current article (it's often not the first one in the list)
- (as required) delete articles which aren't of interest
- (if required) cursor up and down to select an article
- I see no way to select the article content with keyboard
- use mouse CTRL-click to open the article in the background
- focus disappears from visible UI
- press F7 then F9 to get focus back on article list
- you can't just press F9
- sometimes you need to press enter again as well
As you can see this is quite an inconsistent hassle just to scroll through your feeds and select articles to open in background for further reading.
To me, F7 should always focus the open mail panel, F8 should always focus the article list and F9 should always focus the article content so I can spatial navigate to the "open article" link. The focus should stay on the last element (list or article) when a link is opened in the background.
Edit: actually it might be better to stay on the article list and have keyboard shortcuts to open the linked article in foreground/background - the focus should stay on the list when you open in background.
Basically what I want is simple:
- select the feed list
- delete unwanted articles but open others in background (using cursor, delete and [some shortcut])
- close the mail tab and read all the interesting articles

(and the focus should automatically go to the list when you've selected it - not currently the case)
