Sync your Vivaldi web calendar with Vivaldi browser and Android
-
I have already found the problem. If in the Android calendar, the start and end time of the event is the same, in the vivaldi browser calendar it is interpreted as if it was the whole day. The problem I have now is that if I add an event from vivaldi browser for tomorrow or for another future day, in the Android calendar, it is created for the present day.
-
@dividi So, I never created an event with same start and end time, don’t know whether that’s a bug, but might be worth looking into. The second problem you are talking about I definitely don’t have, inputting future events works correctly for me.

OK, newbie here so be patient.
I want to sync my google calendar w vivaldi calendar (going back & forth)
I log into my vivaldi.net account. So far, so good. I select "+"
In the first set of instructions, I'm asked to create a new account -- type vivaldi.net. I'm asked to provide account name, UN & PW. I add a name, my vivaldi username & my vivaldi pw resulting in "Please check your credentials & try again".I can't seem to get past this & I can't figure out why. Clearly I'm missing something but don't know what I'm doing wrong. Can anyone further assist me? TIA

@janrifkinson Read it again. You don’t visit the vivaldi.net account for your user on the web, but you open the internal settings page for the calendar in the browser (url above). From there proceed. Be aware this guide is for using the vivaldi webmail calendar server for syncing the calendar on the browser with a calendar app on android. The calendar app on android can be google, but it will not sync your existing google calendar server events! Instead it will introduce new calendars to your google calendar app that are being controlled by the vivaldi server. So in order to get your existing events synced, you will have to import them into the vivaldi calendar server. Just to make sure we are on the same page here.

Open Sync
Please do not use Open Sync. It is an unmaintained fork with no additions and no support of a very old version of DAVx⁵. You can get DAVx⁵s Open Source version for free on f-droid, too!
-
@davx5 At the time of writing DAVx⁵ didn’t install from F‐Droid, Open Sync installed and hasn’t had any issues so far. Will test though. Are you the developer?
-
@davx5 So, did a test. Installation is fine and adding the calendar server works, but it refuses to sync and doesn’t add my existing calendars from server. It has the same permissions as Open Sync. Additionally I noticed the app wants to walk me through the setup process whenever I start it, which is a bit strange. I’m still on Marshmallow, don’t know whether it’s a problem.
-
@luetage yes I'm one of the developers. I tested it again right now and you need to make sure that you use the email address as username. So the credentials are:
Base URL: calendar.vivaldi.net
ID: [email protected] Email address
PW: the one used for webmailOnly using the username does not work - it results in an empty address books and calendars list in DAVx5.
What do you mean by: "but it refuses to sync and doesn’t add my existing calendars from server"? If you add a new entry on the phone you need to select the correct calendar account in that dialog. After next sync by DAVx5 this entry will be synced with the vivaldi server.
For the setup process: we only have a Marshmallow Android test in the emulator because it's pretty old But when selecting the checkmark that you have made the relevant battery exceptions for your vendor there should be no startup screens anymore.
Everything I tested works pretty well so far - the only thing blocking (at least for adding vivaldi on our tested-with page https://www.davx5.com/tested-with) is this issue: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/53024/calendar-recurring-events-don-t-work-as-expected because recurring events are pretty important for real-life use - and people need to have a correct sync of these types of events on their Android, too.

I'm using davx5 app for quite a few years now to sync my Zimbra caldav account with android and it is working just fine!
It is syncing my Vivaldi caldav account without problems too from start to now.
-
@davx5 Don’t know what went wrong, but I uninstalled and tried again and it worked.

I'm trying to follow this thread since I posed a calendar sync question in January. You uninstalled & re-installed what? If we are still talking about calendar sync, I can say that on my machine webmail calendar is not synching with vivaldi://calendar/
Are you suggesting that uninstalling//reinstalling something cures the problem I'm following?
Thank you.

@janrifkinson What settings did you make? Have you checked "Calendar sync" in calendar settings?
You most probably added your webmail calendar to Vivaldi, did you? -

@janrifkinson Oh, haven't you activated Sync? If not, go to >Sync and activate it.
I can't see the setting for sync belowColor
. Look the difference to my settings:And I'm not sure that you have added a real web - CalDAV - calendar instead of a local one.

@Dancer18 There is no such "Sync Calendar" tick box on my system...

Sync is active and working. The screenshot is from my Linux OS with newest snapshot like you have.
I'll have a look how it is on Windows...EDIT:// I have it on Windows too. If it is not standard it came from mod css that I copied into Vivaldi. But I don't know which one. May be @luetage might know it.

@janrifkinson I tested another CalDAV app on Android and initially had problems getting it to sync. And I’m sorry, but I’m confused by your situation. Last time we talked your end goal was syncing your calendars from your Google calendar server to Vivaldi browser. I suggested you use the Google web calendar directly until Vivaldi sorts out their issues with Google. This topic is about using the Vivaldi calendar server to sync with Vivaldi browser and a calendar app on Android. It’s a different thing and directions on how to do this are in the original post.

I'm sorry to have been confusing. You are correct. I was talking about synching Vivaldi & Google Calendar, realize, problem, followed your directions & it worked perfectly; thank you
But then I started playing around in Vivaldi calendars in gen'l & was confused why I couldn't enter data in one & have it appear on the other. Same servers? I believe I'm working w the latest version.

@janrifkinson You got local calendars in your picture, these will not sync. The vivaldi.net calendar should sync however. Your setup is far too complex to troubleshoot it. My suggestion would be to delete all calendar accounts from Vivaldi, delete all calendars from the Vivaldi calendar server, create a new calendar on the server and create a test event. Then create a vivaldi.net account in the Vivaldi browser to see whether you can get the Vivaldi calendar server event into your browser. Make this work and you can build up on that, playing around seemingly won’t get you anywhere.

@Dancer18 OK, that explains it as I have no mods of any kind installed.
