Vivaldi crashes when opening file upload dialog
-
Just installed Vivaldi for Arch Linux after a long break. When I try to open a file upload dialog (e.g. right click on Google Drive and choose upload files, or try to upload a profile picture on vivaldi.net) a new window with no content opens, a Vivaldi freezes for a few seconds, and then crashes.
I tried with both vivaldi from Arch repos and vivaldi-snapshot from Herecura repo, but getting the same issue on both.
Vivaldi gives the following output:
tcmalloc: large alloc 1073741824 bytes == 0x3fb1f8a7a000 @ 0x7fc19269ad81 [148533:148533:1125/093040.605604:FATAL:memory_linux.cc(37)] Out of memory. [1] 148533 trace trap (core dumped) vivaldi-snapshot
Edit: file download dialog works fine, it's just the upload dialog that causes problems.

@mvaaltola Hello, this might be a bug specific to your distro, or an extension is causing this.
Since it's an OOM error it might also be caused by process memory limitations, are you possibly running a 32-bit version? But I don't know if the browser needs to actually allocate 1GB of memory to upload a 1GB file, it seems strange.
Please try the troubleshooting guide first:
https://help.vivaldi.com/article/troubleshooting-issues/Also read this:
https://help.vivaldi.com/article/reporting-crashes-on-linux/If you're able to reproduce this consistently in a clean Vivaldi profile, then please report as a bug here:

You could also attach the core dump created, it might help the developers figure out the problem. -
Hello @Pathduck and thank you for your response!
Fortunately, my problem seems to have gone away on its own. I tried again today and the file upload dialog works as expected.
I was baffled as I couldn't find any information about such a bug anywhere. I also understand there are quite many Vivaldi users who also use Arch Linux so it's probably not related to that. The cause could be related to a situation where I had updated some libraries without a reboot in between, but I'm speculating.
Hopefully the problem won't reappear, I'll make sure to try the steps you suggested if it does. Good to be back on Vivaldi

@mvaaltola
Hi. I got this same problem. I had Linux MX and Vivaldi. I was trying moving people , copy links etc.Solution for me was to change open dialog for smaller files.
I was uploading big pictures 100+ MB. I think that was too big for my memory, or memory in Vivaldi and then crashed my browser.
I hope that can help others
