Any workarounds for gmail login authentication issue?
-
I know this is a known issue, and vivaldi is waiting on google accreditation, but for now:
Are there any workarounds for gmail login authentication issue?gmail login error:
"Sign in with Google temporarily disabled for this app This app has not yet been verified by Google in order to use Google Sign in."
-
@peefy You can turn off OAuth in your GMail settings, I believe, and then sign in with a regular IMAP protocol.
-
@Ayespy Thanks!
I tried it, following https://support.google.com/a/answer/6260879?hl=en
but it does not work
-
@peefy Grrrrr.
-
I tired it and it works for me for only POP3.

Hmmm. That is interesting.
-
@jon Yeah, POP3 doesn't use OAuth. At least I have not run into it on recent M2 or Thunderbird installs.
-
@saudiqbal How did you do it? (Exact server settings/portnumbers)
Thank you

I had to enable less secure apps on https://myaccount.google.com/lesssecureapps, but then works with POP3.

I'm using Gmail IMAP in Thunderbird with Normal Password/plain text (not oAuth) authentication with "allow less secure apps" on and 2FA off, and things work fine. Seems like M3 sees oauth in the capability response from the server and tries to use it (at least for imap.gmail.com, even in manual setup mode). If there was an option in M3 to choose the authentication method like in Thunderbird, that might help.
The mail connection logging in the console isn't very detailed as far as M3's requests during setup of the account go, so it's kind of hard to tell what M3 sends.

I haven't tried in Vivaldi yet, but yes - this is how I got GMail on my wife's Thunderbird. It tends to re-block the "insecure" Thunderbird access if you don't open it for a few weeks, so you have to go through the whole thing again... She has three GMail accounts.

We need to look into this. I think it was a worry that Google were going to start fully blocking untrusted third party clients and forcing OAuth. If at all possible, we should offer a choice here. In particular for advanced users that are able to change those advanced settings in Google.
-
I chatted with the guys. We will find a solution to avoid using OAuth, for those that prefer that. I am clearly in that camp myself. We have tested and by disabling OAuth one can still log in, with the correct settings set in the Google settings. We just need to fix our code a bit as the assumption is that if you are using GMail you are also using OAuth.
-
@jon Would be nice for any provider which use that.
But in my case I forced myself to use OAuth for the disperation as it
tends to re-block the "insecure" access [...] so you have to go through the whole thing again

Yes, I think our concern was that Google was going to close the door on that one. In any case, we will offer both solutions and hopefully Google will soon open up for OAuth for all our users.

@jon Disabling oauth (I did on yahoo) is midly annoying as you have to login often and bear the notifications to go back on your steps. Sometimes, if you access from another location/device, it may decide to "block" the account enabling again the oauth. But yeah, having both is good.
-
I want to continue using 0Auth so I'll be waiting for Google to get their s- in order. I hope that the wait will not be overly long.
-
@jon Hello, sorry for my English
The same thing will happen with yahoo, or so they have been telling us in recent months about the mandatory use of Outh2 mail clients, but the truth is that today they can still access their servers via IMAP.
With google it will happen the same, they will end up warning of its obligatory nature, but while we can use the validation with normal passwd in our mail clients, at least those that offer that possibility , we hope that Vivaldi offers it
Greetings

I tried using OAuth - I enabled insecure apps and it still says
This app is blocked
This app tried to access sensitive info in your Google Account. To keep your account safe, Google blocked this access.
Do I need to enable 2 factor authentication?
-
@legobuilder26 No. Google will still only allow a limited number of OAuth log-ins from the Vivaldi mail app and because this number is already used up (including by my own sign ins), you have to use "app specific" sign-in
