Plaintext only mode
-
A toggle to only view (read) and send (write) mails in plain text would be nice. Could also be implemented as a [per account] setting.
-
I totally support this option. It is a small thing, but for me it is indispensable.
-
I agree. we also need a good support for composing plaintext mails such as automatic hard wrapping.
-
I 100% agree.
It's extremely irritating to me not only have sending HTML mails as default but even making it impossible not to do this. -
AFAIK, at this stage, if you don't use any of the styling options in the composer, the email will be sent in plain text.

Thanks. It seems this is correct.
But it is very obscure and as soon as you click on one of the styling buttons you are in HTML mode and this is neither apparent nor can it be reversed. -
Is it possible to have the program remember your composition prefs for this, rather than reverting back to "san-serif / size = normal" for every message?
-
@jdvernet Not at this stage. But do make a new feature request here: https://forum.vivaldi.net/category/194/mail-client. Thanks
-
I totally support this request; that's what Foxmail, my favorite email client, does too
Ps
Sorry for my english, I use Google translate... -
I support both requests; using plaintext only and being able to set style preferences for type, size and colour in HTML mode
-
Quite agree. Email composing is a bit broken at the moment (e.g. signatures, quoted lines), it would be Really Nice to be able to select text/html or text/plain as the format.

@code3 @Gwen-Dragon Sorry! Will search for duplicates next time. Thanks for being patient with me!

Hi,
I just started testing the vivaldi browser with the intention to switch from opera to vivaldi. So far it looks good.
Since yesterday I am looking into vivaldi mail. This ist still beta but on the right track. I used opera mail while it was running on linux (Debian).
Now I use Kmail. To me resticting all mail to plain text is essential. Especially when viewing received mail. This together with the option of a souce code view of the mail is a savety feature. It allows me to thoroughly inspect every doubious mail before opening it in HTLM view.
To me this is an essential requirement for my mail client.
So it looks like I have to wait before I can consider switching to vivaldi mail. -

You can already press
Ctrl+U
when viewing mails to see their source.

[Mail] Implement setting to render plaintext (VB-25397) -
As @jumpsq said, the feature to toggle HTML and text only views for emails has been implemented and has now reached the Stable version of Vivaldi as well.
For sending plain text emails, what I said in the past still applies. As long as you don't use any styling options, the email will be sent as plain text. -

Is it possible to reply in plain text mode to an email arrived in HTML? How?

No, not yet.

If you have Mail rendering set to "text only" at the URL
vivaldi://settings/mail
, the HTML message will be displayed as plain text and replying will be in plain text.
