Guide | Block subjects in News sites you don't want to view
-
News sites are bloated of subjects, some of them of no interest to me, for example: football.
So you can block them to not disturb the vision of the page.
This can be done in UBO, introduce this filter in the tab "My filters":
latercera.com##h5:has-text(fútbol)
Domain:
latercera.com
Selector: h5 (always use the higher parent that contain the word)
The subject (word): fútbolSome other examples:
latercera.com##h5:has-text(Fútbol) latercera.com##h5:has-text(League) latercera.com##span.tag:has-text(fútbol) latercera.com##span.tag:has-text(Fútbol) latercera.com##span.tag:has-text(gol) latercera.com##span.tag:has-text(selección) latercera.com##span.tag:has-text(Eliminatorias) latercera.com##a:has-text(fútbol) latercera.com##a:has-text(Fútbol) latercera.com##a:has-text(gol) latercera.com##a:has-text(selección) latercera.com##a:has-text(Eliminatorias)
-
A more condensed format:
latercera.com##.card:has-text(/fútbol|Fútbol|ANFP|Roja|Qatar|selección|Eliminatorias|vs.|local|Deportes|Minuto a minuto|Torneo Nacional|derrota|Tenis/) latercera.com##p:has-text(/fútbol|Fútbol|ANFP|Roja|Qatar|selección|Eliminatorias|vs.|local|Deportes|Minuto a minuto|Torneo Nacional|derrota|Tenis/) latercera.com##a:has-text(/fútbol|Fútbol|ANFP|Roja|Qatar|selección|Eliminatorias|vs.|local|Deportes|Minuto a minuto|Torneo Nacional|derrota|Tenis/) latercera.com##h5:has-text(/fútbol|Fútbol|ANFP|Roja|Qatar|selección|Eliminatorias|vs.|local|Deportes|Minuto a minuto|Torneo Nacional|derrota|Tenis/) latercera.com##span.tag:has-text(/fútbol|Fútbol|ANFP|Roja|Qatar|selección|Eliminatorias|vs.|local|Deportes|Minuto a minuto|Torneo Nacional|derrota|Tenis/)
With this 13 key words I don't see any news about football.

For your peace of mind, I recommend you to use the word "Windows 10" in your News sites. LOL

If you use uBO and want to filter the Vivaldi Forum about posts you are not interested in use this filter :
forum.vivaldi.net##ul.topic-list .title>a:has-text(/\b(account|android|apple|arm|audio|authentication|bing|calendar|capture|certificate|clock|cpu|crash|duckduckgo|[eg]?mail|encryption|export|facebook|feed|freez(e|ing)|import|ios|ipad|kabyle|kahoot|language|linux|locale|login|macos|mic|myanmar|note|pdf|pen|picture[- ]in[- ]picture|pip|profile|qr|qwant|(re|h)?captcha|raspberry|pi|scrollbar|password|speed dial|sync|syncing|touch|touchscreen|video|vpn|vb|widevine|y(outube|t))['‘’´]?s?\b/i):upward(li)
A user from the Reddit forum of uBO help me to improve the selector and use Regex. ("b" in the regex consider whole words only and the "i" case-insensitive matching)
You have to modify the words between "|", so the post that contain one of the words not appears at all.
For example the first post contain the word passwords:
With the filter on :
Edit: You have to enter singular words because the "s" in the regex consider the plural :
The post contain passwords and the filter list contain pasword.

Very handy way to use the filters, though we have had this since before UB/UBO existed.
The Opera extension "ContentBlockHelper" was always geared for blocking user defined elements..
Thankfully it was ported to the new API so is available as a chrome extensionI don't see what this has to do with security or privacy.
This is a convenience tweak, just like blocking *.gif and animation elements. -
