Vivaldi 3.4 shuts down suddenly
-
Vivaldi shuts down while I surf the internet, sometimes 3-4 times a day since I updated it to version 3.4.2066.76. I don't know what the problem is and I don't know why it abruptly shuts down. There's no crash report or anything it's just gone.
-
Have you looked at these help pages?
-
Same problem. More often it happens, when i open browser and dont use it immediately. It shuts down after 10-30 seconds. If i start browsing, its ok. But just now i switched to another copy of browser (i use 2 profiles at the same time) and previous browser, where was playing youtube video closed.
crash reports start from vivaldi update to current version 3.4.2066.76
all recent reports have same exception information
-
Hmmmm - cannot reproduce this. Do you guys use extensions?
-
Can confirm that my Vivaldi browser keeps shutting down suddenly after updating today. Per Ayespy's question, I've removed my extensions and will see if the browser keeps crashing.
-
Same for me. I've already reported it on the blog, so I'm reporting here as well.
The application randomly quits, without displaying the dialog box to send a bug report.
I've disabled Vivaldia, but it still vanishes.I've found a way to reproduce it:
- open a new tab with the speed dial;
- do NOT click on any item: just leave the tab showing the speed dial;
- go to another application;
- after around 17-18s Vivaldi quits
The issue doesn't manifest when I've tried with a guest profile, and then also with a new profile. But it shows-up after closing the window with the new profile, following the above steps.
So, it's something which is related to my profile (my speed dial) that makes Vivaldi quit.I disabled all extensions, but the issue still pops-up.
I can check again if you've a debug version which enables more logs. Just let me know.

@cdimauro said in Vivaldi shuts down suddenly:
debug version which enables more logs
–enable-logging --v=1
chrome_debug.log will be created in a user data folder, modify the v switch for various levels of verbosity.https://help.vivaldi.com/article/reporting-crashes-on-windows/

Note: nothing reported here makes it into the Vivaldi dev team's tracking tools. To provide additional information, repro steps, etc. one needs to report a bug, referencing the original bug number of it is known, or reply to the email received when initially reporting a bug.

I have noticed the same thing with the latest update,When speed dial page is open and i attempted to add a thumbnail and after 15-20seconds the browser just disappears,Everything else is fine and only occurs on the speed dial page and only when updating a thumbnail.
-
Same here. After the recent update, the browser will sometimes just randomly close.
-
I think i found it.
I had bookmark on my speed dial page with not working site. And when i've opened new speed dial page, browser tried to refresh its thumbnail and crashed.
To reproduce, try to create new bookmark on speeddial page with url:
http://somerandomsite.hahaha/onlineand browser should shut down. So i just deleted my broken bookmark from speed dial and it doesnt crash now.
Thanks @cdimauro for the idea with speed dial page. -
@xlim92 Good find - I can confirm here as well, in a clean profile of 3.4 stable
Please report the bug and how to reproduce it here:

Does this occur with all sites which do not work.?,This is exactly what happened when i tried to refresh a thumbnail on the speed dial.
Browser vanishes. -
Vivaldi started crashing for me after the last update as well.
Had a local machine hosted site bookmarked and in the speeddial and it wasn't running, removed that and crashing seems to have stopped.
-
welp, looked at the bottom of my speed dial page and noticed 1 thumbnail trying to update, and then my browser crashed again.
re-opened the browser to identify the thumbnail that was trying to update. went into bookmarks to get off of that page. deleted it, and my browser seems to have stopped crashing.
thanks for the help here.
