Webpages not sizing to fit when using tabs on the side
-
Updated vivaldi recently and int he past 2 updates this has been an issue - before then this was never an issue and I've otherwise changed nothing. Oftentimes half the webpage is gone or important features are inacessible. I'm stuck having to go in and out of full screen to use the browser normally. Never had this issue with a less than full sized window on any other browser or older versions of vivaldi
- I use tabs on the righthand side
- Not always but I often have 2 windows splitting my 2nd monitor. Usually 1/2 or more of the the screen is vivaldi and the other half is discord or another vivaldi window just for youtube.
Lately the webpages won't automatically scale or resize to actually fit AND there's no more horizontal scroll bar. So I can't just scroll to find missing buttons and important info as needed.
Should also mention that zoom out weirdly doesn't solve this problem either.
Resizing my tabs bar to be basically nothing sort of fixes the problem but then I can't see or do anything with my tabs and kind of defeats the purpose of having them on the side vs top.
any help would be nice here

Please include your Vivaldi & OS version when reporting issues. Have you tested in a clean/new profile?

Not sure what the point of this forum is. I have had the same exact problem for days and as you said it never happened before the last couple of updates. The reply before mine seems to assume that we haven't tried updating, restarting and all the other suggestions that every newbie gets. I have been using Vivaldi almost since the beginning. I am about ready to go back to Chrome, Opera or one of the many other browsers that don't seem to have these issues. The only thing I haven't tried is deleting Vivaldi from my Windows HP laptop ands starting over from scratch. What a hassle! It seems to be working now for no apparent reason so I guess I'll just drop it until it happens again..

Welcome to the forum! The point is that volunteer helpers that try to figure out what other people are seeing are asking questions back in order to narrow down the issue, do not get answers, only to get a run over 2 years later by someone else entirely.
Did you file a bug report yet? At the moment I am not inclined to invest the work and set up a test profile to test the issue before you do.

So still no answer in over two years? I don't really have the time or the inclination to deal with these hassles. Just joining the Vivaldi forum was more than enough hassle for one day. I almost quit Vivaldi when I discovered I can't get to my Gmail groups or my contact lists to edit them without going to Chrome anyway, but since I keep Chrome and Edge on my computer anyway, I just go to Chrome to deal with it. I admit most Chrome add-ons seem to work okay. Not sure I will stay if this particular problem comes up again. Especially since nobody else seems to care anyway.
-
@qiken739 Because nobody who would be able to provide clear steps how to reproduce the issue, has the issue. Look, you can threaten us all you want that you will leave and switch to another browser, does neither help you or us. If you want to get this fixed you will have to invest the time to provide clear steps how to force the bug from a fresh profile.

@luetage
Happens at random. If no one else has had the problem you are absolutely correct. I should just quit Vivaldi. If it followed some obvious pattern, I would certainly tell you what that is.It doesn't even necessarily begin at startup and will stop just as mysteriously. I guess the who one first asked about it and I have the only computers in the world capable of reproducing the problem? Perhaps someone would like to pay us a great deal of money for such valuable machines?
It is working fine now. I was just curious if there was a way to get it to stop without a bunch random of rigamarole.

@qiken739 your approach is like if you came without your car into a garage shop that makes free repairs, and the first thing you do is to go up to a random mechanic and yell "2 years ago someone said the AC is going out randomly, I have the same problem, and you are not doing anything against it! I've had enough, I'll switch to another car brand".
-
@WildEnte So no help from you either? You crack me up!
Where do you get me yelling at anyone? I asked what seemed to be a simple question about a bug in Vivaldi. This "help" forum has been anything but helpful. So far how many unhelpful replies have this problem gotten? See anything here that might tell anyone how to go about fixing the problem? Why do you bother leaving useless comments? -
@qiken739
Hi, you are the first user report this since two years, it seams nobody else have this issue with the latest version of Vivaldi.
The OP never answered the first question, what OS version?
Add a step by step guide what you are doing to get this error, are you also have a two display setup?Cheers, mib

@qiken739 It's not that no one cares. It's that we can't reproduce the problem(s).
You mention extensions and these may actually have an effect, but we don't know what extensions or even what kind of system you are on.
I can only think of a single website with a bad style sheet that failed to properly re-size in Vivaldi in the last two or three years. If I were to visit that website all the time, perhaps I could remember it.
I modify my data for Google and GMail using Vivaldi all the time - so I am sure I don't understand why you have to go to Chrome or Edge to do it. Again, a problem you profess, but which I can't connect with.
So please don't conflate confusion with apathy. It's not that we don't care. It's that we have no data to try to figure out what is happening at your end.

@mib2berlin Edition
Windows 10 Home
Version 21H2
Installed on 9/15/2021
OS build 19044.1766
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4180.0As I already stated, I just turn on the Windows computer (always updated, this is a Windows Forum I believe) load Vivaldi (latest update) and sometimes it does it. More than twice. Hasn't done it since early yesterday. It has done it since before the latest several updates. Sometimes it stops after turning Vivaldi off and on a few times. Sometimes I have to restart the system, sometimes more than once. If I had more details I would certainly tell you. Perhaps it has to do with the extra taskbar on the right side? But I don't think so. I can't remember for certain if it happens when that is closed, but I think it does. I don't always have that open. Only one monitor, several tabs (left side) are always open. Bottom line, I can't reproduce it at will so I don't really expect anyone else to. I just thought someone with more Vivaldi troubleshooting experience might have encountered the problem and Know how to deal with it.....apparently not.

@qiken739
These bugs/issues love developers the most, hard to catch.
First idea is, it has something to do with your GPU and Vivaldi.
You can check this with disabling hardware acceleration in settings > webpages and animation in settings > appearance, test this for a while.
What GPU do you have?Cheers, mib
