Cyber Rodeo
Supercut - Gigafactory Texas is just getting started with the first Model Y deliveries to customers.
The Cybertruck and Semi-truck are delayed until next year. The top priority is to make the new Model Y with the structural battery pack in large numbers. The Cybertruck, Roadster, and Semi-truck need lots of 4680 battery cells.
-
Q1 Earnings
Some Key Points
- Beat Wall Street Estimates by a huge margin. Operating margin up to 19.2%
- Working on dedicated Robo-taxi (no pedals or steering-wheel). Volume production by 2024.
- Cybertruck on track to reach volume production next year.
- Shanghai factory to reopen after shutdown, with 8,000 workers living at the factory and working 72 hours a week.
- Pricing likely to increase more because waiting lists remain long, inflation is high, and raw material prices are increasing fast. Pricing needs to anticipate rising prices of raw materials.
- New 4680 battery needed one fifth of the capital expenditure for the production line.
- Tesla to take action on mining and refining lithium. Already recycling 50 tons/week, and this will grow substantially.
- Berlin and Texas factories to reach 5,000 units/week in 9-12 months. New factories use 30% fewer robots due to single-piece castings,¹ and the body shop is 60% smaller.
- Profits will be invested in new factories, FSD, Robo-taxis, and Optimus humanoid robot when appropriate.
- Super-charging network opening up to non-Tesla vehicles, and accelerated investment in super-charging network.
- Tesla Insurance launched in Virginia, Colorado, and Oregon. Risk is underwritten by Tesla, premiums depend on driving data, and lower premiums based on data encourage safer driving.
¹ Model 3 and Model Y Body
The two castings highlighted in blue for the Model Y replace 171 castings highlighted for the older Model 3 body structure, resulting in 1,600 fewer welds.

Climate Change Philanthropy
Elon Musk declined a meeting to discuss climate change philanthropy with Bill Gates because Gates admitted he still holds a short position on Tesla stock, the automaker and sustainably energy company Musk has been CEO of since 2008.
In a series of leaked text messages, Gates was proposing a potential meeting with Musk “to discuss philanthropy possibilities,” but Musk was not willing to do so after Gates admitted he still has not closed out his short position on Tesla.
“Sorry, but I cannot take your philanthropy on climate change seriously when you have a massive short position against Tesla, the company doing the most to solve climate change,” Musk replied to Gates, declining the invitation.

Elon Musk to Buy Twitter
Elon sold about 5.5 million Tesla shares on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday to help finance his takeover of Twitter.
Twitter has grown by about 8% in the last ten years, less than the rate of inflation, while Tesla has grown by 13,814% from $6.45 to $891 in the same ten-year period.
For Elon, it is not about making money, but bringing benefit to humanity.
- For Twitter to deserve public trust, it must be politically neutral, which effectively means upsetting the far right and the far left equally.
- By “free speech”, I simply mean that which matches the law.
- I am against censorship that goes far beyond the law.
- If people want less free speech, they will ask government to pass laws to that effect.
- Therefore, going beyond the law is contrary to the will of the people.
- I hope that even my worst critics remain on Twitter, because that is what free speech means
- If our twitter bid succeeds, we will defeat the spam bots or die trying!

War in Ukraine
As the war drags on, and inflation keeps rising, TSLA stock keeps falling. Rob Maurer of Tesla Daily has A Message for Tesla Investors. Do not worry about short-term fluctuations in the stock price, which are affected by macroeconomic factors. Just look at the fundamental growth and profitability of the company. Over three years, TSLA stock has increased in value 15x.

Dave Lee talks FSD with James Douma
James Douma is an Expert on AI. FSD Beta 10.12.1 was just released, with major improvements in confidence.
If you think that FSD will never be ready, watch this in-depth discussion. FSD plays a big part in ARK Invest’s price target of $4,600 a share for TSLA by 2026. At $658 this has to be a great buying opportunity, in spite of fears about war in Ukraine and inflation.

@Pesala I don't know about all this. I feel compelled to play the devil's advocate here. With some technical analysis, it's apparent that Tesla stock could get real ugly real quick. It keeps testing resistance at ~703 USD level but seems unable to sustain a rise above that. If the stock fails the 675 USD resistance, it could collapse to about 613 USD easily. Their next earnings report is due on the 20th, projected to should a frightening drop in earnings.
Meanwhile, the RSI shows the stock almost oversold, but not quite. If drops below 30, there could be a temporary pump. As indicated by the 20/50 Moving Averages, Tesla has been in a bearish divergence since March 9.
-
@MidnightRaccoon Short-term trends should be ignored. Look at the growth in sales, profitability, and innovations.
Hold for decades and look at the share price increase after at least 5 years.Ron Baron is a big investor in TSLA, and predicts that it will increase 30x in the next ten years. At $700 it is a bargain; if it does ever collapse to $600, it will be an extraordinary bargain. Even at $703 on market close today, the price is up 14.49x on $67 five years ago.
The factories at Texas and Berlin may be burning cash at the moment, but production is just beginning to ramp up. Prices of the vehicles have risen by $10,000 in the last year, but the waiting list is still 3 - 6 months.
Q2 Results may be ugly since the Shanghai lockdowns lost the production of 100,000 vehicles in April and May. In spite of that, June 2022 was the highest vehicle production month in Tesla's history. Compare YoY sales of the others to Tesla 27% growth YoY in Q2. (BestInTesla)
-
@MidnightRaccoon Contrary to talk on Wall Street, Q2 results were excellent considering that Tesla lost100,000 deliveries due to the Covid shutdown in Shanghai. Summary of Results by Rob Maurer of Tesla Daily.
Meanwhile, TSLA is up to $765 before market open today.
Those smart accountants at Tesla sold 75% of their Bitcoin holding at about $29K to reduce their impairment losses to $106 million — far below the expected $460 million.

TSLA Doubled
@Pesala said in Tesla to Mars :
£2,208 invested in 7 shares on 16th November is currently worth £3,468.
Twenty months later, the stock price has doubled from $408 to $816, but due to the exchange rate changes those seven shares are worth £4,766, which is a lot more than double the £2,208 initially invested.
In fact, the share price more than doubled after 11 months, and tripled after 1 year, before Covid and the War in Ukraine drove prices down to current levels.
It is amazing how much has happened at the site in Austin, Texas in just two years. Joe Tegtmeyer shared his look back at the site one-year and two years ago, when he started the drone flyovers.

3:1 Stock Split
A vote will be held at a shareholders’ meeting on August 4th. It makes it easier for retail investors to start building their portfolio.
-
3:1 Stock Split
TSLA stock will be split after market close on August 24th. If the price is $900 at market close on 24th, it will be $300 at market open on 25th August. If you have 100 shares now, you will have 300 shares after the split.
The last time the stock was split in August 2020, the stock price rose significantly. Of course, that is no guarantee that the same will happen this time, but it is a positive sign for investors.
With a Tesla, you never have to visit a gas station again and smell those horrible fumes.
-
@Pesala I know it's been 2 1/2 weeks, but your numbers were pretty close. Telsa's down 1% so far today. I think some old shareholders are selling, but I bought some.
-
@MidnightRaccoon I just used a round number to make the mental arithmetic easy for normal people. Guessing the share price is a mug's game.
My first seven shares, bought at $408 for £2,208 could now be sold for £5,189. Much of this growth is due to the $/£ exchange rate changing from 0.7577 to 0.845 in the last 21 months. This is good for selling shares, but not so good for buying.
Nevertheless, $296 is a bargain for such a successful company, in my opinion. The Texas Gigafactory is already producing over 1,000 vehicles per week with huge profit margins. Demand seems to be virtually unlimited. It will remain higher than production for years yet.
EVs are just part of the story. Solar roofs, battery storage, and insurance are just getting going. The Humanoid Robot has even greater potential.
Full Self-driving at $15,000 is nearly all profit. If you understand its potential, that is actually very cheap, though it sounds a lot for a software package.
Do the maths: if you commute two hours a day, five days a week, Full Self-driving (when it is fully autonomous) will give you ten hours a week to do productive work or relax and plan your evening with the family. It can send/fetch your family members to school, the airport, or the hospital. How much is your time worth? Only 10 hours a week @ $20 an hour is $10,400 a year already.
