Show your V on your DT or WM.

@BoneToneYou'd hate where my start menu & task bar are in Windows then... task bar on the right, puts the start menu in the top right -- caddycorner to where it is by default.
In Linux I don't use a start menu, and task bars, though I have two of them, are off by default and rarely ever turned on. To get a start menu, I just right- click anywhere on the desktop or hit the context menu key with the desktop in focus....and extending the scope of this ruddy ratbag's...
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/32674/show-your-v-in-your-v...i thought for a bit of lightweight fluff [there's heavyweight fluff? ] it might be interesting to see how various V users situate their V within their OS' window manager or on their desktop. For people who always run their V maximised, this likely is a pointless venture.

@Steffie THREE CLOCKS onscreen (and all the same timezone)?
WhitePurple Rabbit syndrome? -
@TbGbe Show your V on your DT or WM.

I prefer a "clean screen". These Blink Blink-Buttons for every application would drive me crazy.

Maybe English works differently in other locales? Down here, a request to show your [own] arrangement, results in respondents showing their arrangements; gasp, who'd have thought? [actually, it's just as likely here to invoke a response of
no, fsck off!
]. I'd not realised that elsewhere the nouns & verbs automagically redefine whilst crossing the equator & become instead "On no account show your own arrangement but simply critique someone else's".Sheep-bladders & earthquakes.
-
@Steffie Plain and simple
-
@TbGbe But... isn't that merely your V, not your V on your desktop? Even if you use V maximised, a full-screen shot would still show your [Mint] panel arrangement [which would be interesting]... aha, maybe you use no panel, or keep it on autohide?
-
@Steffie I typically run it maximized, but as you've pointed out, that looks different in the various DEs I use. I'll put together some screenshots to post later.
In OpenBox, my system starts without any taskbar, so a maximized app utilizes the entire screen. There are tasks for which I will tile the browser with another window, or two or few. So I'll try to grab some images of that as well, if I can recall what those tasks are.

@BoneTone Cool. By way of explanation [partly], this is just another aspect of my insatiable
pervinesscuriosity to check out how other people do stuff... to me it's often interesting & informative. I'd hope so also for others... but maybe it's not so much. Been this way since ancient childhood; always interested to stickybeak into friends' toy-boxes & cupboards.

Yes, but:
- My pic is only of VD1, the one i dedicate to browsing. On VD2 Thunderbird runs maximised, ergo the only visible clock there is the panel. VD3 & VD4 are variable occupancy, depending on specific tasks in hand, for which there might be [eg] Dolphin, Kate & LibreOffice running, thus the Conky clock might or might not be visible but the V one certainly is not.
- The multi-timezone aspect is amply covered simply by the pop-up hover:

Yup - autohide. I did day plain and simple

And what about at night?
:face_with_stuck-out_tongue_winking_eye: -
@Steffie If the computer is on, I shut down when I'm going to sleep.
Also during the day, I (sometimes) do stuff away from the computer and shut down then too -
@TbGbe Dokay dat's dood den.

Vivaldi gets tiled along with the rest of 'em, and sometimes tiles its own self.
-
For people who always run their V maximised, this likely is a pointless venture.
This is exactly why Vivaldi fits into my desktop: all panels are hidden by default to have a distraction-free environment and only with Vivaldi can I achieve the same clean interface (via Ctrl+F11), because only this browser can be fully controlled with mouse gestures and keyboard shortcuts.
-
@bimlas I like to fullscreen it sometimes yet bring back a few UI elements, such as the panel (on the right) & tab bar (on the left) as that helps to center page content on the screen. I do this with either the keyboard shortcuts or mouse gestures I've assigned, depending on how I'm interacting with my computer at the time.
I also like to make use of the similar feature: Toggle UI. I've assigned a mouse gesture & keyboard shortcuts (yes, plural) to that action as well. It removes all the UI elements without making the window itself take up the entire screen. Depending on what I'm doing, I might bring back some UI elements or not. If you're working simultaneously with another app, you can effectively "fullscreen" Vivaldi over half of the screen by tiling it to one side or the other (or to the top or bottom of the screen).
This can be very productive, especially if you like working with that minimalist UI. Sometimes I'll tile Vivaldi vertically to half of the screen, the tile several IRC windows in whatever organization makes sense at the time on the other half -- this allows me to work with a clean & large webpage while chatting. I'll do a similar thing with email & messaging apps, or with text editors & terminals, or word processors & spreadsheets. Most of these other apps also allow toggling parts of the UI as well, but the vast number of actions that Vivaldi provides settings for keyboard shortcuts & mouse gestures makes it the easiest of all to quickly adjust the UI from one mode of work to another. Using a WM like OpenBox certainly helps in this respect, bring able to fling any window into a designated portion of the screen & toggle certain UI elements with the mouse or keyboard as well. I'm fond of saying OpenBox is to WMs what Arch is to distros; we can add as Vivaldi is to browsers as well (at least in this respect, there's more layers to the original analogy).
-
@BoneTone Our workflow is pretty much similar. I also set up a mouse gesture to
- Toggle the UI
- Open the window sidebar (instead of the tabs at the top of the window)
- Open the URL bar with Ctrl + L
So without having to toggle the UI all the times, I always get what I just need.

However...
OpenBox is to WMs what Arch is to distros ... as Vivaldi is to browsers ... as Plasma is to DEs.

@bimlas Teehee. You were surprisingly gentle.
