Need some help :)

hello. so, i was looking for a way to accomplish an extension idea of following this:
- The file protocol๐กญ shows all the files automatically.
- Try pasting this link: file:///C:/
And, then view its source (ctrl + u or appendingview-source:
in address)
There's no trace of manual addition of those files (ofc) - Also, try this link for other example https://download.gimp.org/mirror/pub/gimp/v2.10/windows/
By giving this example, I am guessing that those files are automatically fetched and not manually (but theview-source:
indicates manually - which i cant believe ).
My idea is to be able to use the automatic fetching in a page, but to be able to use
iframe
on all the files - the folder i am targeting would be carrying only simple html files. It would be verry nice if the sorting function on the column header buttons too can be retained. The page i am thinking for is to be in html language. So, here i am looking for some direction like the keywords to search for, or what tags can be used, or if some other language will be better for this work. Like any hint, any input.
Thanks a lot in advance
P.S. i know this is better suited to stack exchange, but their bar is wayyyyy too high. show us what u researched, no homework questions, better for community overall, u cant answer, comment, ye vo, and what not..... so, am asking here in friendly place. hope u guys wont mind and will help too

i mistakenly said this:
Would be nice icing on the cake if other attributes/properties of the tag/function etc are also shown so that i can see if there's smth better than i imagined/asked for. (for example: the other day i didnt know about existence of display property and its values for heading tags, but that was exactly what i wanted, so...)
i realised it was too much to ask for, sorry :smiling_face_with_open_mouth_cold_sweat:

@yashpalgoyal1304 I really have no idea what you're asking for here.
But some things:
- The file:// dir listing for local files uses some built-in resources for displaying stuff like folder icons etc.
- The listing on gimp.org is just a standard Apache folder index.
I also have no idea what you mean by "automatically fetched"? They are just displayed like any other web page over HTTP.
Are you talking about some automatic downloader? If so I'm sure there's tons of extensions already that will do this for you...

Old Opera (Presto) had what I guess you'd call prototypes, editable CSS files used when displaying certain types of content. So you could change the way it displayed email, or change the background for transparent images. Wouldn't help with his iframe for content though.

ohh, i think the post requires some clarification. so, i forgot to clearly mention what i want to do.
So, say i have a folder which has some files in it. I want to make a webpage which can display those files. One way to do that can be to include all the files manually (like in
href
, or insrc
attribute), but there seems an automatic way as well, as in FTP.With automatic fetching of files, i was saying the latter way, that rather than me listing all the files' sources manually in the code (which would also mean i'd have to update every time there's a new file), the webpage automatically displays all the files in the particular folder/location (like it does when using FTP). I want to be able to not just give the links to the files, but to render them inline as well. I was using
iframe
for that in raw tests, but i guess, i'll look for some other options too.The webpage will be local-based for initial test phase, and be web-based for the final phase. I am thinking of doing in html, but am willing to look at other options as well.
i hope it is clear now. sorry for missing the details earlier, i was sort of excited :smiling_face_with_open_mouth_cold_sweat:
